It took me a couple of viewings to see the face in the water (pretty funny, BTW...), but I get the feeling there's some backstory here regarding the "Push of Shame".

Give. Inquiring and idle minds want to know. It doesn't look like that deep or difficult a crossing...

Danny's honda XR400 didnt (doesnt?) like water..... not even shallow water...... it dies of fright when subjected to water....... leaving poor Danny no choice but the push of shame.

it happened quite a few times....enough for us to start counting on it  ;D

Wasn't that Dan's 600 or 650 that didnt like water??

Rock this one time at dirt bike camp, Dan asked Calvin to get a picture of his water crossing. Cal being the nice guy he is was happy to get the photo, then several more as dan got push his bike through the river under his own power. I think Dan might have pictures to prove this as I'm sure he would like to share.... lol

It was the '91 XR600 that had the problem.  maybe old cracked coil wire, ground problem, short or whatever, but if the LEAST little amount of water got up around the ignition - it was like pressing the kill switch.  I smeared vaseline all over and replaced a few pieces but never got it figured out...  The 400 I have now will run while under water until the airbox fills up, damhik.

bottom line.. I pushed that 600 through more water crossings than I rode it..  >:(  followed by the dumping of the icy water from the boots at the far bank..   so there were lots of 'pushes of shame', but Calvin immortalized one for me on my own camera..  Thanks Cal!

thats right i remember the 600.......

that was funny as shit though.... Calvin had the perfect angle with your own camera...."is this one of them newfangled digital cameras?? he just kept snapping picture after picture after picture........ i was laughing my ass off more at Calvin gettin his photog on than Danny's boots fillin up.

i know you're happy to not have that problem anymore

me and Eric was juat talking about goin up shoe creek sometime soon... you in?

And if I recall correctly we all have made the push of shame, last time we were up I barried my xt in a sippy hole, it took me and cal to pull it out of the mud. never cut off though and the supertrap was totally under water. sounded like an old criss craft at the dock....

what about that time i played U boat commander with my XT at that place just north of me...... Jesus that was bad....i could have died in there if it were not for some super duper luck and eric's navigational abilities.

but i have not done the walk of shame on shoe creek or big levels... so far.......so good

I can relate. I lived around a *lot* of water in my dirt-bike developmental years. I rode my '74 DT250A through creek water crossings where water came up to the seat. Difference is, you fuckers have *rocks*...we pretty much had hard sand or gravel bottoms. Unless...

True story:

Dad rode most of his life. When I got into riding, he came back to it. Picked up a 125cc Kaw "enduro" bike, one of the old orange ones from the early 70's, that had been fitted with a 175cc cylinder and piston...used to be a popular mod; leave the 125 stickers on the side, nobody was the wiser and you didn't need the other-class license.

We organized what can only be described as a "group ride" one Saturday. You could hop into the little creek that ran through town (Kickapoo Creek), and ride it out of town to the "big" creek...Bureau Creek, which at times could be classified as a small river, then take that to the canal towpath or any number of entertaining bits of territory. While riding through town in the creek bed, normally less than a foot deep, there was a spot under a foot bridge where there was a hole a good 2 -3 feet deep. Plenty of room on either bank to go around.

Dad went through dead-center, and discovered that someone hand strategically dropped a concrete block in the middle of the hole. It was like watching Artie Johnson run a tricycle into a fire hydrant on Laugh-In. That Kaw (and Dad) went under. Dead stop; fall over.

We pulled it out, flipped it over, pulled the sparkplug and pumped the water out, and that little sumbitch started right up. Ran for years after that.

Dad's still running, too, although he doesn't ride anymore. :)
