Title: 1991 FJ1200 fuel mileage
Post by: 1tinindian on October 02, 2012, 02:46:00 PM
I know we had a different discussion going in another thread about mileage, but I wanted to update my specific findings relating to my FJ.
Earlier I had stated that I was only getting 150-160 mile to empty, this was based on my daily commute which consist of a mere 20minute run time, each way, and at speeds of 70-75 mph.

My FJ has the carbs rejetted, (sorry, don't remember what they are as RPM did the work).
V&H ignition advancer
UNI pod filters
Delkevic dual slip-ons
18 front, 39 rear sprockets
180/17" rear tire
I dress out at 230# on the bike
I run 91 octane as often as I can find it.

I have recently just rode 500 miles in a 10 hour period and the mileage greatly improved to 38-39 MPG and with a range of over 180 miles on a refill, and this was still riding hard and fast for most of the trip with some speeds reaching 95-100 mph.
I'm sure if I had ran at a slower pace and took it easy on the throttle, I would have been well into the 40 mpg range.
So, my conclusion is that my daily comuting is more at fault for the  low mpgs I see on a regular basis than anything mechanical.

By the way, after that ride I went to bed at 8:30pm and slept till 9:00am the next morning. It took it's toll on me, but it was alot of fun while doing it.

Yes it was.
Type in "Fagon Fighters" on Facebook and have a look at the pictures of that event.
If you look real hard, on some of the inside shots, you just might see me in my blue Yamaha jacket!
