Title: hospital bed bike lift
Post by: John Hopkins on October 01, 2012, 01:28:33 PM
I've got a mechanical hospital bed that I am considering converting to a bike lift / table..

I've got a few ideas but I don't want to reinvent the wheel..

Anyone already done this?

John.

Bwahahaha.

Sounds like a pretty unique mod to me; is there some market in surplus hospital beds out there?

You should get "Nurse" to come over and help, methinks.

Well I have been given shut loads if training in how to get people in and out of those beds but never a motor bike.  Besides those things are huge and weigh about 1/4 of a tonne be far easier cheaper and more convenient to buy a proper bike version.  Oh and those beds have a CPR lever which when pulled make the bed drop straight down to its lowest and flatest settings, can you imagine the carnage as you accidentally knock it when you passing by to get to the beer fridge and your 260kg bike suddenly drops 2 feet.  Just made myself think those beds have a weight rating which I doubt very much will go up to that of an fj.

If you were not so damn far away I would jump in and help. This is my kind of project.

I like the idea of using a retired hospital bed to hold a sick FJ. I don't know if it will work but it sure feels karmicly correct.

Unless it is a bariatric (fat person) bed I doubt it will be safe to use with the weight of our bikes as it only works in a neumatic foot pump system.

I think this hospital bed conversion is a GREAT idea!

Once the "old girl" is up on the (converted) bed, treatment can begin.

Why not rig up an actual drip-stand, and feed her the petrol that way, when you give perform the tankectomy - I think it'd look the part.

Now - whether or not you decide to wear the white coat and mask whilst working on her is another matter.

Test her lungs.....Give her a HUGE blip of the throttle and say "breath in......." Let go and say "breath out....."

Oooooh.....kinky!

NURSE!  QUICK!  The Screens!!

Let's see, starter motor from my 86', chain and sprockets from an almost done chain, we can get all the lift we need. Might need some added structure to lift our beasts...
