hey everybloody ,, I now have the factory pro gear shift kit, , will get it fitted eventually , , but as the parts lot came with a new yamaha shift shaft I would mind fitting this too, do they wear out , or is it something that dousnt need changing , also can it be done without splitting the cases , as if that needed to be done then new gears ect may as well be fitted , but can't afford that
If it's just the shift spring and roller detent, then you don't have to split the cases.
However, you will need to remove the clutch and basket. The shift mechanism is behind the clutch.

Hi david, thanks mate, , its just the spring and arm in the kit, , just that a new shift shaft came with the box of parts,, :good2:
cheers

You will pull the shift shaft out. Look it over and see if you need/want to install the new one.
You might need a special clutch basket holding tool. Looks like a modified set of Vice Grips with long snouts. You might be able to hold the basket with a strap wrench. Maybe others will chime in if they've used something different. You don't want to use anything that could damage or warp the basket.

Fixed that for you. If you use an pneumatic or cordless impact wrench with a 30mm socket it will come right off.
The shift shaft is not a wear item that needs to be replaced.

But not a corded impact wrench? I know I'm being a smart ass. :)

Awesome, even better, , shift shaft can stay in its packet,, just need to buy :good2: or make a clutch boss holder, ,, all good for the impact gun, even air powered, , those corded ones are just for suzuki,s

It really is not required as long as you have an impact wrench of your own preference. In the over 15 years of working on these engine & clutches I have never owned one or thought about buying one.
I just hold it with my hand and use the impact to remove the nut.

thanks randy, that's an even better thing to know, , thought they may tighten up like a front sprocket nut ,
Nope, just zips right off with an impact
cool, I'm comfy enough tearing the clutch apart, as I've been in there before when taking THAT wire out ect, , may have to grow another hand to fit the kit
I've removed that 30mm nut by putting the bike in gear and holding the rear brake. Hand tools are all I used.
Not a hard install. I think you will like the more positive shifting. Happy wrenching. :good2:

Take a look to my web, engine section. You need a couple of parts to make the installation correctly (specially the shaft o-ring)
Goog job!!! :i_am_so_happy:
Hola alf,,i checked it out last night mate, the pic made it easier to follow factory pro,s instruction sheet, so if im carefull will the o,ring still break, but if i have one handy i wont need it, :good2:
can't you take it to that creek in Tassie that Boag use in their beer add, chuck the bike in and pull it out with the job done and the bike polished :good2:
 :good2: ,,, awesome idea mate, that would be worth a try ,, maybe I could polish it first and it will come out with black powder coated alloy :good:
