Title: Bue Spot brake hoses
Post by: ribbert on September 08, 2012, 06:13:14 AM
I'm about to order some brake hoses, 2 lines from the m/c to blue spots. Something many here have done.

Now I know the sellers that offer a 2 line option will get the length right and I know the bottom banjo needs to be straight (not angled) and at 90 deg. to standard FJ.
That description sounds pretty straight forward, but, having no control over the individual interpreting it on the other side of the world experience tells me deviating from the standard product is inviting a stuff up.

Has anyone discovered another bike model (to simplify ordering or get from the wreckers) that fits or would I be better off finding a local hydraulics company to knock some up?

Thanks
Noel

You might have 'some' trouble finding a local shop to make some up, some are nervous about not having ADR approval.  There are some pre-made lines with ADR approval available - check in AMCN or similar for ads.
Galfer (and others) do have a 2 line kit for the FJ and the Galfer lines allow you to rotate the banjo fitting.
You might also check with local MC stealers that do a fair amount of racing, but realize they will rape you on price given 1/2 a chance.
Note: you can use a 15deg banjo and when you attach to the master instead of the splitter, I think you'll find that the rotation of the lower banjo is the same as stock.

I recently purchased and installed a Goodridge 2 line set up on my 89
that is ADR approved and was spot on for length and orientation
also purchased a rear line but am yet to install. I got mine off an
EBay seller in the UK but have since found out a local guy makes them
and is a distributor for Goodridge http://www.johnstamnas.com/ (http://www.johnstamnas.com/)
Have known John for a couple of years now (obviously not very well)
hes a good guy and  does advertises in AMCN
Hope this helps

My mechanic orders braided by the roll and fits it as almost standard at any first service he does for you.  When i asked him about ready made stuff he just giggled and pointed to his homemade dispensing device.  Find a chap that knows what he is doing and get it spec'd exactly to you bike.  That way any issues and you know exactly who to go back to and you wont have some manufacturer blaming the spanner monkey who fitted it.

Am I just lucky to have a 'can do anything' guy to help when needed or is it a rarity?

I've had the best luck with that (adjustable banjo)  approach.   I used Spiegler http://www.spieglerusa.com/brakes/custom-brake-lines.html (http://www.spieglerusa.com/brakes/custom-brake-lines.html) lines and had good luck.  To get the length of the line and bend of the fitting,  I used some clear tubing and inserted ignition wrenches in the ends of the tubing to imitate the banjo fitting.   The orientation is the hardest (for me) to get right, but this isn't an issue with a line that allows you to rotate the banjo fitting.

I had to get custom lines made for the gsxr 1000 front end on mine. I found a guy 19 miles from my house. That's dot licensed. Made front and rear brake plus the 2 clutch lines in red. For $178

What does 'dot licensed' mean?

DUH, i thought it was something to do with the break fluid or something!!

Do your mechanics all have to be government registered or something then?

Thanks for all the responses. The rotatable banjos that many of you pointed out solves the problem.
