Title: I couldn't take it any longer!
Post by: 1tinindian on August 27, 2012, 11:54:43 PM
Some may say I'm crazy, but, I went out tonight and cleaned a large amout of gravel off of my turn onto the on ramp that  I take every morning to work.
It is a negitive camber turn and it needs to be clean.

You can see by the light colored area that it was a fairly large area to be covered with gravel.

Anyone else ever go out and take things into your own hands on public roads like this ?
Or do I suffer from a certain disorder?  :wacko2:

I've cut overgrown bushes from trails for MTB riding and same for public roads where the trees are hanging low enough to impact my line.  Your disorder is captured in your obsession with building a killer FJ...  I think you're in good company.

I have never done this but if the need arose why wouldn't you. Better than falling down.

I spent most of a weekend sweeping gravel off a poker run route that my wife's riding group was setting up. They had over 200 bikes show up for that event, and no crashes! Keep up the good work.

My self and a few others kicked pinecones out of the corner after Klavdy went down. On a popular road for bikes North of me someone had intentionally poured motor oil in a corner. Some time after that someone else use White spray paint on the road before and after the corner to warn riders of "OIL!!!".

I've come across glycol antifreeze in a corner, dumped by a RV with a broken radiator hose.

The heads up driver saved our asses when he flagged us down, before we went charging into the corner. A Nice guy.

That shit was slick slick.....

I remember that day, it was raining too a perfect combination for a wreck. The fuel most likely came from a tractor, there were alot of rainbows on the roads in that area of western Va. that day..

I guess so, I have seen this on another road closer to the coast, similar paint on the road warning riders. Another road had a large hand made sign reading "Rice rockets!!! This is not your race track, SLOW DOWN". If I see it again I might stop for a picture...

Well i live down a single track road with earth and gravel 'pull ins' to let cars and large agricultural vehicles pass each other.  These pull ins have huge pot holes in them and if you have to pull up on one quick and get your foot down several of us have been known to come a cropper and fall/nearly fall off the bike as the hole is right where your foot needs to be!! So I have been known to head down (with my trailer) to the local quarry pick up a ton of 'hoggin' (road sub surface aggregate) and whilst a friend drives slowly i shovel it off and a third friend tamps it down.  This is all highly illegal and the local government authority (and probably police) would not take kindly to it, but if you report it through the proper channels they dont do f*** all, so its us or nothing!  We refer to it as 'Gorilla ground works'
