Title: My new FJ
Post by: Derek Young on July 01, 2012, 01:43:40 AM
Picked up a 91 today from Woodcreek Pete.  Has 17 " Wheels and a few other nice mods.  It may see a paint job in the future, but for now I'm just going to ride it.  I have a few parts from my 86 that will make their way on there as well.  It runs very smooth.  Happy so far.(http://fjowners.com/gallery/3/34_01_07_12_12_28_18.jpeg)(http://fjowners.com/gallery/3/34_01_07_12_12_05_42.jpeg)(http://fjowners.com/gallery/3/34_01_07_12_12_01_09.jpeg)
Thanks Pete

nice ride mate, looks like he did a few upgrades for you too  :good2:, now there is no need for lights in your shed with the pink stripes lighting the way

Ya ya... I know.... Its pink.  If it does get a repaint I doubt the pink will survive.  It has quite a different feel than the 86.  In a good way.  I raised the back end a couple inches last night via dogbones, its still lower than i'm used to though.  I was a little concerned about cornering clearance.  I'm not a fan of scoring a touchdown midcorner.

Derek congtats on the second FJ looks great. I see the front brakes are done. Don't let them get to you about your pink stripes (they wish they had them). My 93 has teal green a close second. Have fun.  :yahoo:

Looks good Derek. Not going to keep a stock color, what do you think it would look in. I like the one from GB in the red and gold.  :good: Did you get to keep your 86? Are you going to part any of it out? Just get out there and enjoy the kookaloo. Big R

Nice score Derek!  Looks like a lot of work is already done on this bike. Is that a 3.5" FZR front rim I see?
What does it have in the way of a rear shock?
Replacing those heavy oem mufflers with your SS Supertrap system will help matters. What do you have in mind for upgrades?

Kudos lad!  Pat

Kurt

Check it out Kurt, I DO have the pink stripe, and I welcome another of my kind into the fold!
Regardless Derek, I'm just glad you weren't hurt, and are strong enough to resist moving on to  some bike other than an FJ.

I'd really like to get all the pink stripes together for a group picture some time.
Maybe next years WCR???

Many things have changed on my FJ , but not the pink stripe.
In fact, even the bagster tank cover continues the pink stripe.
Wouldn't have it any other way :-)

Give it a few years and that Power Ranger red suit will fade to pink, then he'll be a Powder Puff Ranger.

Well... at least Donna likes the pink stripe(her nickname at work is Pinky).  Its funny how we all ride FJs but argue how much better one is than another based on colour.  If the tank didn't have some damage I probably wouldn't consider a repaint.  Really like the look of Mark Alva's machine.  Maybe in the off season.

Bike has:

FZR1000 3.5" front wheel
ZX7(I think) 5.5" rear wheel
Blue dot front calipers
Braided front lines
Urine cup masters (don't remember from what bike)
Uni pods
Spin on oil filter adaptor

Not sure how far I'll go with the mods yet.  Will probably have some parts for sale also.

I would be interested in any of  the side panels with the pink stripe if you end up repainting in the future.

In my world pink does not belong on my bike, but like I told Derek, ride like you stole it. By the time my suit turns pink, it will be time for a fresh set of moto-skin. My Power Puff fan club membership might due for renewal as well....

Nice bike Derek -- and I see that you purchased on Canada Day ...how appropriate.   I always like stock looking bikes so I know if you want you could just paint the tank the same colours.

Or if you do decide to work over next winter ...

All my mag subscriptions have expired so I'm a "little" out of touch with the latest offerings.

But, an FJR 1400?  With USD forks??

Looks tasty.  Hopefully it'll come in a "real" motorcycle color >>>>>> RED!
(or ANYTHING except stupid silver, I'm so tired of silver bikes)

Still on the fence about the paint job.

Took the new ride out on its first Monday night ride with the boys.  It performed very well.  The 86 had much better suspension and was geared lower, therefore could be ridden a little harder on the tighter roads.  Night and day difference on the highway though.  The 91 feels WAY smoother.  It feels like a completely different kind of bike.  Love the 18-38 gearing.

Went for our first two up ride tonight.  I must say this bike continues to impress.  I never much cared for doubling before, but on this bike it is a pleasure!  Donna and I both did notice a fair amount of buffeting on our helmets though. (she still prefers to ride her own bike though)  Wondering if this windscreen may have been altered or if a longer one may be an improvement.

I Really do like this new machine.... Even if it isn't red and white...

Taking off for our first road trip with the new bike tomorrow.  Going to the Okanogan for a few days.  Part of a day on some of our favorite roads in Washington State, ride the steam train through Kettle valley.  Should be a great time.  Hope the weather cooperates.

Yeah, Pat, but I want it water cooled.  I've been commuting to work on my FZ1 and it's struggling with the heat in stop and go traffic.  I'd hate to imagine what a big bore FJ would do in that environment (shudder).
