Hi,
I believe I found an adaptor that switches from dual mount mirror on the FJ to single mount. This would give more flexibility as to what types of mirrors we can install on the FJ.

The only problem there may be is if the holes do not line up.

I don't think that they would work because you would have to drill the threads out on the captive nuts in the frame work behind the fairing and then you would have the problem of getting behind the fairing to put the new nuts on.
This looks easy to modify for the FJ. Same plate with the 6mm stud and holes in place of the two studs. My next project to sneak through work.
Great! Finally! Hopefully! Mark, would you post your results when you get it done? I've been looking for a better option to the CBR mirrors all summer. They are better than stock and look better too, but I still have trouble seeing behind me. There has to be a better option. Good luck!
I am in the process of buying them. Once I get them I will see what I can do and report it here unless someone beats me to it.

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to solve with these..... I really don't see a need with my '90. Something specific to the earlier models?
It's just that there's visibilty issue with the stock mirror for many people and there are limited options for other types of mirrors available as substitutes. By using this adaptor, if it works then there are more options as to the types of mirrors that can be used on the bike.

Thanks Mark, that looks doable. I'll mock it up to see how much difference it makes, the next chance I get.
I think I'll go that route if the aftermarket bases chocker speaks of doesn't yield fitment of a better mirror option. I'm going to look through Dennis Kirk etc for a selection of 6mm post mirrors that might possibly work.

Having looked at my bike (a 93 3xw) and some of the ealier bikes it appears to be something to do with the angle of the actual fairing and the subsequent mounting of the brackets. The cbr mirrors are effectivly mounted upside down in the backets and then you rotate the mirror housing to get them pointing the right way and to the desired angle! i will admit they do stick out virtually horizontal and i quite like the look.

I will admit i dont look at them and think 'WOW' but neither do i think they look crap. They do look a darn site better than the OEM stuff mind you.
However What i do think when i look into them is bloody hell the only thing stopping me from seeing any further behind is the curvature of the earth itself. If i want to see my elbows now i actually have to lean away from the bike to glimpse at them!
Mounts that throw up different options would be a positive, but then it leaves you thinking do some of these more modern mirrors actually suit the bike aesthetically anyway. The Fj is a bike that is fundamentally 'straight off of the eighties' and IMO any changes we make should be sympathic and complementary to that. Just 2 two pound and sixty three pence worth!
just a second thought the mirrors do make the overall width of the bike about 20mm wider than the handle bars, something to consider when filtering and moving through stationary traffic.
