Title: 89 fj1200 $250
Post by: moonrunnah on June 26, 2012, 11:20:27 AM
so i have found an 89 fj 1200 for $250 for a parts bike, well a according to what the guy said it needs tires, a starter, and a ignition switch
will the fairing bolt up to my 86? and what would be good to keep from the bike and what match up?   :drinks:

Fairing I don't think is close enough to be a bolt-on, but you could probably do it if you took the subframes and such to do it.

Motor interchanges.  Carbs interchange with mild adjustment (fuel pump vs non-fuel pump).  Rear suspension should swap but I think you have to do all of it at once, linkages aren't the same.

In most cases everything interchanges but you'll have to occasionally swap brackets and such.

Fix it and keep it or sell it.  If you decide to buy it for parts I will buy the front forks off of it from you.  You could actually make some money parting it out.  I'd jump on it if I was you and keep the motor for a spare.

If its a whole bike - buy it sight unseen -- there is well more than 250 in parts on the thing.  The front end alone on the bike is worth that and perfect for the 86 for an upgrade -- it will allow you to put the famous Bluedots on ... can't go wrong

Easy to say moonrunnah hard to do. Don't get attached. Hay does that handle have any thing to do with something you make or transport?  :drinks:

If it's not a giant heap it's worth it.  The Carbs alone are worth $200.  The forks $150 the engine if it's rebuildable IDK another $400 to $500?  Then any plastics are worth something.  I've seen torn up seats on ebay go for $50.  That bike is a gold mine of parts that someone can use.  I saw a ROUGH fround end on Ebay yesterday starting at $525.

Carbs $50-$75 at best, when you can buy new for under $400.00, forks are junk 16in set up poss legs good but a lot of rust, no air box so rain into motor not hard to believe, fairing rough at best rear tail section only plastic, bad starter, tires junk, no key no gas cap rag keeping the rain out, seats nice. I buy/part out a lot of FJs, 2-8 a year, this is one of the worst ever. You may see those prices but I doubt they sell for that if so, I need to find those dumb shits. If I was smart enough to post a pic I would but I'm not, maybe Travis will. Doing a comp test tonight, poss find a home for it thurs. A buddy had oil pan failer the other night, he could use it. :bad: Damn legend cars :shok:

Just posting what I've seen on ebay.   :pardon:  Don't claim to an expert.  I've been seaching for forks to modify my 86 and have seen lots of parts out there.  Not what I need yet but I have been surprised by the prices I see on junk.  :scratch_one-s_head:
