Saturday July 14th there will be a pre Maine Bash at my place........bring your swims and your appetite and any booze you want to drink. Attending the rally is not a prerequisite..........but being an FJ owner from Ontario is. Party will start at 2:00 pm........ we have a huge camp fire pit in the back so bring your stories with you.......oh.......and if everyone wants to do a run first.....we could start that at 10:00....any route suggestions should be included in your reply and then everyone can decide......so let me know who is in.......and what meat you would like....Steak,ribs, chicken hamburgers or hotdogs.
Address is 9605 Dufferin st. Maple..........10 kms east of Canada's Wonderland...along Major MacKenzie. Turn right at Dufferin and go 1 km south...top of the hill....look for the green number sign on the Left (east )side and turn into the property...go past the gate and down to the bottom of the hill.....look for the white cottage on the right and just pull in. If you are coming from the east......take 404 north to 16TH Ave and go west until you hit Dufferin St.......turn right at Dufferin and go north about 1.5 Kms....it wil be on the right (east)side. Look forward to meeting everyone!!!

Sam's is at Stouffville Rd. and Woodbine Ave., first road east off the 404 exit to Stouffville Rd. The town of Stouffville is maybe 6 miles east of that past Hwy 48. They give the bikes all the space they could want around the back, away from the cars. Many of the riders are mature types and have been getting together for at least a decade. Still, the H-D people going in for meals park separately and don't mix with the rockets, cafe racers, vintage, super bikes and tourers. :dash2:
You need some of that Canuck applejack screech and a shitload of B.C Bud.
That'll get 'em to turn up.

CanDman,
Super Idea! Thanks for hosting it :good2:. If we get a few FJs and go for a rip, is it a rally? ... or just a day ride? I hope to attend as well :drinks:.
Looking forward to meeting more esteemed FJ owners of Ontario. I will get back asap.
Officially.......I am calling this the Ontario chapter pre Maine bash......." Street Meatn Greet".......we can decide on a ride once we have a total head count....which I will do , hopefully by the 20th.....then we can all have a vote.......thx for the replies.....I am looking forward to this........
CanDman
I'll be there... can't make the Maine rally this year, so this will be a good chance to see a few fellow FJers.

Well, if I were coming to your ride and BBQ I would suggest a ride to Algonquin PP, or if that's too far maybe just to Lake of Bays and back :-) What condition are the roads in these days?
Cheers,

.............thats a great idea.... Arnie.......except you are right in saying that Algonq Pk is a bit of a drive for a 4hr jaunt...but deffinitely sounds like a fall rip......for sure

My brother did the Rock several years ago and told me it was a must !!!!!.........no sweat......it is on the bucket list......I probably shouldn't tell you this Kev........but the girls outnumber the men there 7-1......from what I'm told...... :good2:

Count me in as well. I don't think I can make the Maine rally but this is definitely doable. I have put zero miles on the FJ so far this year. Been busy with home reno's, relatives visiting from England and a new boat that needed a bunch of work before launching. We moved back in the house, the English have gone back home, the boat is in the water, so now its finally FJ time.... :yahoo:
I will talk to Elvis and see if he is into going as well.
Thanks Candman for putting this together and hosting it. :good2:

hello again
thanks for the invite - i should be able to pop by - i have just been "reminded" by the other 1/2 of a birthday party later that day - but i should be able to stick around "for a while" (i don't wear a watch or own a cellphone) - just plain ol' roast/bbq chicken is fine for me
would like to meet some people and talk about aftermarket thingies for the beastie
port dover is the day before also, wondering whether to go or not - so should make for a bizzy weekend
speaking of which, i see a lot of mention about a rally in maine, but can't seem to find any info on the site about it - could you direct me to the proper location for some info? seems my brain has lost some capacity to think at the moment - have to go to bed to work tonight, too tired... can't think... must sleep... :morning1:

LOL. "Back in the day" as they say, school buddy was the doorman at the Rockcliffe in Minden. The place was packed and lines down the street on long weekends. Then he'd call up the curviest hotties from the line up and quietly tell them there's room but only if you sit at the table with "those guys". There were no extra seats
One of these girls wriggling on your lap and you'd be blushing like Benny Hill.

Obviously I intend to ride over so I won't be able to bring over the mystery fairings I was presented with from the previous owner. Turns out we were in the same regiment so he gave me a little bonus. Anyway, I'd like some clues because I haven't seen ones like this on the internet and you won't see them in person at the BBQ. This weekend I'll try to remember to take pics of the inside mounting tabs.

Elvis the other FJ rider from Barrie cannot make it as well. Something about rubbing shoulders with NHL hockey players at a company golf tournament. :pardon: I was really looking forward to meeting up with you guys and going for a ride. I have hardly been out on the bike this year so far. New boat and work schedule are getting in the way. Have never been down to the forks of credit and have heard alot about the area. So thank you very much CanDman for hosting the event. The weather looks like it will be perfect for a ride/bbq.
Ride well guys and take pics...If I can't be there I at least want to see what I missed out on.
Cheers...Jake

OH NOOOO ...........what a bummer........but now that you have opened the can of worms (so to speak)....looks like you might have to host a "Bike n Pike Day......sometime down the road ......I love to fish :i_am_so_happy:..........
I hope realize I was just kidding about Snowball....I don't really have a pet Polar Bear...I was just bugging Chris a bit......and Klav.....

One of the reasons I'm not going to Maine is that my rear wheel is still making an uncomfortable hitting sound on each rotation. Other riders noticed it last year. I thought it may be the rotor, so I replaced it with a new one. I also replaced the rear brake caliper (it need to be done anyway).
Took the bike to work on Wednesday, and the noise is still there, and getting worse. I'm concerned. The last thing I want is a major failure. So, this weekend I'll be working on FJ... no riding until it sounds right.
Enjoy the gathering. I assume I'll join you for the next one. If anyone is passing by Whitby, I'm five minutes north of the 401 at Thickson. We're home in the afternoon; PM me if you can drop by.

Badly worn wheel bearings -chech for play with the bike on the center stand. Also do your rotors or pads show any signs of uneven wear?
Bob,
What Dan said. Last time I heard a rythmic ticking/clunk from a rear wheel, the bearing had wallowed out the wheel and just fell out.

I can see another Saturday getting jammed up on me because of work, which really pisses me off, but I want to get out there at some point in the proceedings before sundown. That's when the bears and deer come out to play on the road, lol.
eg. last Saturday I couldn't even start my ride to Minden until nearly 4 p.m. - rolled back into town at 9 p.m. which is the same time I'm writing this.
keeping my fingers crossed. I'll try and get word out. Have a safe and awesome ride tomorrow.

I Robot --- +1. The first year of producing a show for radio I started every week's episode with I Robot.
Unfortunately I wasn't clear until my ETA would have been in the dark around 9:30 and have to leave about 90 minutes later to be back for a kids fishing gig Sunday morning in the Kawarthas.
For sure keep me in the loop for another date. I can already see some mods to the 1100's in the photos that I'll want to pick your collective brains about.

Saturday August the 11th there will be a post Maine Bash at my place........bring your swims and your appetite and any booze you want to drink.
Look forward to meeting everyone else !!! There will be a donation box if you feel like contributing any money for the food and beverages.... :drinks:

I've got the date Aug. 11 engraved in my noggin. I have SENA SMH10 headsets. One's always on my Shoei. I could bring along another set if it would help the group for riding lead and sweep or just if someone has been thinking of getting a unit and wants to try it out for tunes, GPS prompts and phone from your smartphone via Bluetooth.
What route/distance did you end up taking for the first ride and where did you assemble? Trying to get an idea of the range if I have some ideas and depending on where people come from. I live in Bobcaygeon which is a long way to anywhere else. No straight lines here :)

If we're in Bobcaygeon, let's take the long way to Beaverton and go through Gooderham. If you have not done the 507 you've missed on of the few twisty rounds in Ontario. We can take 503 to Kinmount, 42 to Coboconk, then 48 to 12, which puts us just north of Beaverton. Only about 150 km.
https://maps.google.ca/maps?saddr=Bobcaygeon,+ON&daddr=44.8187219,-78.378388+to:Beaverton,+ON&hl=en&sll=44.666305,-78.767365&sspn=0.819441,1.234589&geocode=FSmipwIdP3pR-ylrS7BuHtfUTDHi6p69Wx6eSQ%3BFSHhqwIdbApU-ynfFIsRX-TUTDG7bm15G7U6Ug%3BFTrwpQIdwjZI-ynv9RddcVnViTGFC86ndGKCZA&oq=Gooder&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=10&via=1&t=m&z=10
I'm either going to go to Port Perry the night before or close to it...From Brantford I'm looking at 2.5 hrs to there from here...Anyone around me going?
That's why I was asking what time/distance the group is looking for. The 507 loop makes a difference of 100k more than going to Beaverton direct from Bobcaygeon, making a total of 300 km from Port Perry and around back to Dufferin & 16th. Mind you, it's interesting though not technical or very scenic (short curves closed in by forest). Look out for 19 year olds on Gixxers that time of day.
From Port Perry to Bobcaygeon, look to go #57 into Caesarea (pronounced like South Korea :) and dump out on #35 then into Mount Horeb Rd. and dump out at Omemee (home of the Neil Young Rock n Roll Museum) and up to County #17 Pigeon Lake Rd., which is much more scenic than #36 in this area, as you have some good high views of Pigeon Lake and several elevation changes involving bends.
Hands up, who is a total rookie to seeing Bobcaygeon? I'm thinking of a few options for parking and a warm welcome for lunch. Or just grab a sausage from the cart and watch the boats/bikinis along the lock from the grass embankment.
Beaverton, the cutest hostesses for miles run the Tar'd & Feather'd. Haven't eaten there yet myself but who cares. lol. It used to be the local Wild Wing.
Or hold out for the Anchor Restaurant on Hwy 48 by Sutton. Definitely good food and great owners.
I'll post a link to a route once I figure out what Bob did there with the Google map of 507 :)
I'm switching sprockets to 18/38...and installing 93-up rubber washers on pegs to cut down vibration, hoping to get it to 3500 or lower from 3800prm's I'm at now @100 kph...and I'm a total newbie to that area looking foward to ride...On another note i got buddy who is getting together a 200-300km run thru and around The Falls, once i get the road numbers and such maybe this would be a nice fall run.

What's your year of FJ? I would like to know more about what's required for a 18/38 swap for the FJ1100 and I have never heard about the rubber washers modification. I've been finding the toes on my left foot get a buzzy feeling, something I never got on my XS750 and it's 1 cylinder short, lol.
I went thru Randy @RPM and thanks to him.... i almost Boo Booed! He corrected me on what to get 4 rubber/steel washers and you need 4 short head screws,I hope this helps,I think it's combination of motor being in sweet spot @3800-4000 rpm the 18-38 combo will bring it down to around 3400-3500..i hope @ 100kmh

if you like.......brother.....Paul is crashing here on Friday night...if you like you can crash here too and then we leave in the morning together. PORT perry is about 45 minutes from here........and as far as the route... I have never been to Bob Caygeon or the Kawarthas for that matter...and I am really excited about this ride particularly.......it would be nice to hit as many twisties as we can find....and I love the scenic trails as well ......other than that......I am game for any route you guys agree on :drinks:

I took off that 'Hip' weekend on my bike as soon as I could, when everyone else seemed to be fighting to get here.
The field was next to the local marina about 2 km from the house. Some of the band/crew stayed on a boat the same marina where my friends keep theirs. So here's pics: 1) of my biz partner with the drummer, 2) biz partner's hubby with a program director from Much Music, and 3) crew concert pass.

I'll post a link to a route once I figure out what Bob did there with the Google map of 507 :)
I entered 'Bobcaygeon, ON' and 'Beaverton, ON' as start and end points for 'Get Directions', dragged the route to include Gooderham, clicked on the link icon (top left, next to the printer icon), copied the URL and added it as a link entry in the email (third button, under the Underline, wraps the link with [url]).
I'm close enough to Bobcaygeon that if we decide to meet at 9 am I can do the 507 loop on my way there :good2:
To all --- Can we get a tentative head count of how many folks are doing this run?
I'm pondering asking around for some freebies, specials, souvenirs, what ever, from the locals or a Yamaha dealer. Don't ask - don't receive, right?
Off the record, I think some of you would appreciate a "4-20" clip with some town's emblem enameled on it, from what I'm reading between the lines.

Over the long weekend I'll wrap up a proposed route and have some plan B's. Last weekend there was a serious collision on 36 that meant turning back a half hour's drive and starting over in the other direction around the lakes. No other diversion route. That's how it can be up here sometimes.
Right now i'm thinking I'd come south to Omemee to collect the group from Port Perry and head to Bobcaygeon from there.
Also sum up the body count online here as guys chime in.
Figuring out the timing as to where/when you'd want to grab a snack near noon time. Closest civilization would be Bobcaygeon. I'll post some options.
Chamber of Commerce gave me some trinkets and souvenirs for the group.
I'm installing my new rubber back washers for pegs and 18/38 combo(Thanks Randy!)should be a go...

Cathy and I may not do the entire route, but we will do as much as we can.... we will be 2up. :hi:
So, if I read the route correctly, we start at Port Perry, head to Omemee, then on to Bobcaygeon, then take the 507, ... to the 503..., ... then down to Coboconk,.... then on to Beaverton, then back to Maple?
Either Bobcaygeon, or Omemee might be a good place for Cathy and I to start :good: 2 1/2hrs to Beaverton from Bobcaygeon, then 1 1/2hrs to Maple...

Unfortunately I'm out... more FJ issues to fix.
The new rear rotor, caliper and bearings (all of which were overdue for replacement) highlighted how bad my chain was.
I assume it should not be making clicking noises :negative:
New chain and sprockets are on order, but it is unlikely they'll arrive before Saturday.
On the up side: I can finally replace my 49 tooth rear sprocket with something a bit more highway friendly (got a 40, so I'll have a 18/40 mix).
I assume I'll be able to attend any future rides... if not, I may need to borrow one of our southern neighbour's firearms and put my FJ out of its misery
Have a good ride everyone.

Thanks... but I can't use stock. My JMC swingarm is extended by 4" (I still have my stock chain and sprockets).
Normally I keep up on maintenance better than this. I did start a demanding new job in May, so I've been distracted. Not a good excuse.
But once I have everything working I'll be able to ride to work, which has never been an option before.

Hey HAPPY BIRTHDAY Candman! We should be there Sat afternoon after a little shopping stop over at the big Vaughan Mall. The bicycle shorts instead of underwear definitly helped for the Rally, no saddle sores. Thankfully no one was wearing speedos.
How about some fresh Pickerel to add to the feast? If there is anything we need to bring besides drinks just let me know.

Hey Jake, sorry to hear the bad news, next one for sure.
Kev, I'll do my best to get there, my only employee quit on a Sunday night a couple weeks back and I have been working my butt off to keep up since then. If I make it, my god we are going to party man!
Chris
Shame about the folks who are having a hard to no chance of making it, but I know what it's like. Some people would have me working 8 days a week instead of the usual 7 if it was possible.
Here is a more detailed route. http://goo.gl/maps/21qPR (http://goo.gl/maps/21qPR)
Zoom in and click on the icons for information. There shouldn't be any problem considering the range of FJ's. Just make sure by the time we leave Flynn's Corners you are looking good for about 100 km.
Sorry Bob's out. I would have suggested he take the lead on the 507.
Really folks, it's not a technical route or particularly challenging unless you are going well over posted limits. I'm a very modest rider and it's just a way I get to #3 which is curvy and leads in to Haliburton which is scenic. 507 is closed in by trees almost the whole way. However, a truck lost it on the 507 last week and I've see a minivan rolled up against some rocks so it's not a place to day dream.
The map has two routes back - red and green. We might find there is no time to go to Haliburton and Minden (red route). Your call when we get to Gooderham which is basically just a junction. The home stretch into the GTA I figure CanDman knows a good way so I left it off.
Hopefully we are in Bobcaygeon around a time most people feel like eating lunch and it's not too early because it's the most amenable town. Then work up an appetite for the BBQ the rest of the ride except for coffee/pee breaks and fuel top off. Trust me, I'm not as organized as I might sound.
For the couple joining from Napanee, of the two locations to rendezvous, you'd like Bobcaygeon much much more if you're early and if you run behind, the group has plenty to see in the mean time. No contest with Omemee which is where I plan to wait for the Port Perry group. You'd also like arriving from the east via the Buckhorn side along 36 instead of Hwy 7 and Pigeon Lake Road.
Charlie.

Nice. That's more or less my regular weekend morning ride, except I loop back east on 118 to 503 & Gooderham, then backtrack home.
If time allows the red route is worth it. Hwy. 3 to Haliberton is much nicer than the 503.
Have a good one... once I get all the parts on the FJ I'll have do the route myself, in honour of the missed group ride. :good2:
OK folks.......this is not a cancellation !!!!!! but it is a vote on rescheduling........no one wants this more then I do....but the weather however does not look too favourable for this event......it's not just the ride....but the swim and BBQ and campfire to follow........also some of the other members are either not able to make it or are questionable....so.........I want to hear from everyone who was planning on coming or can't make it.........to vote on rescheduling. Let me know your thoughts...and suggestions on another weekend ....preferably in August.........keep in mind my place will always be available.........so let this be a group decision...... if everyone is still good to go for Saturday....then no problem....lets make the most and have a blast.....or should I say a swooooooooooooooooooooooooooosssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh ..........what say you all ?
CanDman
Cathy and I will be going either way, so we are game for a ride too. We intend to visit Royal D, and GP bikes as well in whitby, at some point too. .... Probably on Sunday.
Charlie and Bob have done up nice routes for the ride..... Thank you guys!
If we rebook another BBq , I will attend that too....
:good:
Hey CanDman; brave of you to step up and suggest this is not going to be a favourable weekend on several fronts.
Put me down as OK with rescheduling.
I have a $h!t load of work to do with a business partner so this would ease up the anxiety. And if the BBQ is rained out I'll feel bad about using a precious Saturday for a less than ideal ride with new friends.
Weather Network:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/caon0070 (http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/caon0070)
I might take the opportunity to visit a buddy in Orangeville instead. I haven't seen him since I picked up my FJ1100 from his place months ago.
Some other time anyone wants to get out, I am past due for a run to Huntsville and/or Gravenhurst with a break to walk the waterfronts and village shops.
Also can do one hour loops through the tri lakes (Pigeon, Buckhorn, Chemong) - Bobcaygeon, Buckhorn, Ennismore, Bridgenorth.

Im ok for the 18th, after that Im booked for a few weekends. What ever works for you since your hosting, its pretty hard to coordinate with everyones schedule so no worries.
With weather not looking to co-operate i agree for new date....I'm tied up on 18th too,so anytime after that is ok.

See y'all then.
Good call, it rained a full inch down here on Lake Erie already this morning, and hard also, no visibility. The FJ's were happy in their dry garage. Sorrry to say....

THX ..... MR. BURP......... I do hope the 25th will suite you callender as with the rest of the group........weather or not.....Tiger...Grannyknot....Bob....and Jake would have been MIA's......anyway....and I am really hoping that the whole group can get together....I will let the others....like Zwartie....and Dan......and DB Cooper...know of the new date........cheers...and I hope the 25th will be the one....
CanDman
One thing I would like to make clear about the 25th......is that everyone is welcome and I think it would be excellent to have everyone show........other notables.....would be Zwarts.....and DB Coop.........and Dan. Especially Dan.... there is a saying I like.........probably read it in the good book...." rebuke a fool and he will despise you....rebuke a wise man and he will love you".......what do you say Dan....we can have a few shots.....drink a few wobbly pops....throw on some Tull............and become good mates......if you think I was out of line with what I said....no problem....you can talk and I will listen.....then bury whatever proverbial hatchet exists and get on with the better business......like next years rally....and moding our rides...... :drinks:...this is a real olive branch here bro....take it.... :flag_of_truce:
CanDman
Aug 25th... I'm in, regardless of what it costs me. (nothing like running your own business)
If it rains we ride, if it rains we BBQ, IF IT RAINS WE DRINK.
Chris
CanDman,
I have no problem with you, I blame Paul for creating a false situation with regards to the NESR rally this year. I cancelled the rally for the following reasons....
-Money was tight
-Family was visiting
-Tires are almost worn
-Concert @ my trailer park that weekend
Again I have no problem with you or you guys changing the plans for the rally weekend. I just decided I wasn't gonna go this year.
If you have a spare bed for me on the BBQ night I will be there, I'm gonna warn you though I like to drink, and I like to ride. Not at the same time mind you. A little herb in the late night is a bonus. I hope you are not gonna quote the bible to me in the evening because I was brought up in a religous family and forced to go to church till the age of 16, and havent been back since. Not that I dont believe in a higher power or anything I just dont like being preached at. Its a personal matter between me and what I believe.
So CanDman if you will have me I will be there. Looking forward to meeting you.
Dan-o
alcohol and religion should never be mixed, somone is likely to be belted with the book  :diablo:
Hey Dan.....nice to hear from you...I also look forward to meeting you....have for a while.....when you didn't reply to my invite for the 1st BBQ I threw....well...I guess I was pretty disappointed...and I had sent you a PM as well as an email ......for sure you can't blame Paul for that...my issue had nothing to do with not being able to attend....but more that you didn't respond..any way....lets save this for the 25th.....and we can put it all behind us and move forward. Paul has only ever had kind things to say about you and was quick to defend you when I posted my frustrations. I am not a pastor or a preacher......truth is ...I hate religion......religious people don't really care about others....... If someone asks me a question about anything... I am never afraid to answer. So you can relax....your parents didn't hire me to "bring you back into the fold"..... :dash1:...
As far as sleeping arrangements....there are 2 fold outs in the basement and Grannyknot has one of them...Paul and Cathy have the spare bdrm....so you are more than welcome to take the other fold out......now if you would prefer.....to tent.....there are 120 acres here....2 cleared acres just around the house...so if you or anyone else want to bring a tent, you are more than welcome. I am very glad that you can come Dan....I am also thinking about putting on a little drum concert....and Barrimore Barlow has to be one of my all time fav drummers.....wish I could play "Conundrum" a little better..lol ....so I may just have to fire up the stage lighting and the fog machines and play a few tunes.......cheers Dan-o......see you on the 25th...
Canriseaboveitman
CanDman,
Sorry I didn't reply to your PM, at the time I wasn't sure if I would be able to attend, and I've been at the trailer pretty much every day since school was let out (no internet) except to go to work. I used to read the forums from work almost every day I was there but they have now blocked access to www.fjowners.com (http://www.fjowners.com) from my work place. (Guess I spent a little too much time on it). I'm at the house now because of the recent rainy weather and the need to do laundry but will be going back to the trailer in the next day or two, so again I will disappear from the internet world for a while.
I haven't rode the FJ nearly as much as I would have liked to this summer, really only one good long ride this year. It sat so long that I had to hook up the battery charger to it yesterday.
If I could use a cot/fold-out or even a empty space on the floor at your place for the BBQ that would be perfect.
Looking forward to it,
Dan-o
Arrggghhh...I can't make it. :ireful: Turns out we have a wedding to go to. Who the hell gets married on a weekend in the middle of summer? Don't they realize we have more important things to do???

No worries Dan....I'll make sure to have the other fouton couch prepared for you.......now you will be sharing the basement with Grannyknot.......so as long as you boys behave yourselves...I will keep snowball in his fenced in pool.... :sarcastic:......

Jake, you got to get those priorities straight. A wedding? The bride and groom aren't going to know if you were even there or not, they are getting married, they're really not thinking about the guests if you know what I mean.

Tom
Hey guys and gals. Just trying to help out with the head count. I went back in the thread to past the reschedule. See if I'm close:
Candman - natch'
Charliebrm - moi - Bobcaygeon. Planning to go to Omemee and wait for the group from Port Perry. Carry on the 25 minutes to Bobcaygeon.
Hemi Bob, Courtice
PaulFJ03 and Cathy from Napanee - Question: are you planning to rendezvous in Bobcaygeon? Best place to kill time sight-seeing if schedules are off.
GrannyKnot aka Chris
Tiger from Erin
Bob, Whitby
That's 8 people for the ride and 4 more for the BBQ
Akinc aka Andrew and missus coming by 4 wheels from North Bay to the BBQ.
Scharding aka Steve and missus from Waterloo for the BBQ
Other names I'm not as sure about
Dbelch
Zwarts
DBCoop
AllanOn, Kingston
Can't make it:
Sabre
jvb-ca aka Jake
How'd I do? One reason I'm checking is because all summer Bobcaygeon is one busy place on weekends. I am anticipating by the time people meet and set off from Port Perry, it would be getting near lunchtime when we hit Bobcaygeon and it's the ideal place for that. Anyone falling behind in arriving or arrives early won't be bored parking and stretching their legs along the Trent Severn Lock 32.
There are a few good restaurants in mind -- Just for the Halibut or Lock 32 Pub & Restaurant --- and they will be busy so should I try and get one to hold a table for eight or we take our chances or get fast food and find a place to squat on the canal parkland?
Consensus?
Candman, I will be heading home late evening on Saturday so I don't need a sleeping slab. Better than a third of my riding is night time since I started eight years ago so no hardship for me.
Cheers, Charlie
PS: I'll shoot you my cell number in a PM and you can give me a heads up when you are leaving Port Perry. Then I'll go down to Omemee and tip cows till you show up at the Macs Milk.
Very good Sir Charles........

Grannyknot aka....crispy crunch.....although...I am still working on him.....could use some help...if anyone else feels led to pull out the cattle prods......zap on....work will always be there.....besides .....I don't want to be the only one coughing at the camp fire..... :bye:
The Pub sounds perfect....maybe we should reserve seating outside patio for 10 for 12:00 pm.....and if we're 8 ...so what...
I would like to see everyone at Timmies by 8:45 am.....and on the road by 9:30 am...... and hopefully back at the ranch by 3:30 pm as others will be arriving for the BBQ...if it is possible.....it will be a hot one so I want to be in the pool by 4:00 ......with an ice cold beer in both hands............. I'll start Q'n by 6....... and the woods already in the fire pit....and that is getting lit around 9:00......and it's going to be an awesome camp fire
I'll call you.......Friday and shore up the numbers....

PaulFJ03 and Cathy from Napanee - Question: are you planning to rendezvous in Bobcaygeon? Best place to kill time sight-seeing if schedules are off.
Hey charlie,
We will be starting with the group meeting at Port Perry, and then attempting the whole run. It looks to be a great route. If we have to, we will cut across the infield to catchup to the pack.
If we time it just right, we could LEAD the pack home!! :rofl2:

Hey Kev, we will see you tomorrow, can't make the ride but wife and I will be there for the BBQ. I'll bring extra pickerel fillet for SnowBall just to make sure he is well fed and happy, because we all know that hungry bears aren't much fun to party with.
Cheers and have a great ride guys. :good:
Well, that was fun :good2:
Thanks to everyone for a great ride. It was nice putting a face to some new friends, and seeing some old ones... a cool (if not punctual) Ontario FJ community.
how's the bike running Bob?
Hey Kev,
Jane and I just wanted to say "Thanks" for the kind hospitality yesterday! We had a great time and it was good to meet the people that I talk with on the forum1
Love to get together again soon for another good time!!
Steve
:yahoo:
SUUUUUUUUUPERB day ladies & gentlemen, superb. Good to team up with guys from the last ride and great to meet and ride with some more Ontario FJ owners :good2:
Sadly, our host CanDmans was unable to join the ride due to 'technical difficulties' with his FJ... :empathy2:
Due to CanDmans 'technical difficulties' and a wee bit of misunderstanding regarding which Tim Horton's to meet at in Port Perry, we started the ride a wee bit later than planned :morning2: but hey, all good things come to them that wait :rofl2:  ... :mocking:
The weather was terrific...a warm 14c when I set out at 7 a.m. on my 1 1/2 hour journey to the meet point...and it got all the way up to 32c (94f) with not a cloud in the clear blue skies over Ontario :good2:
The ride underway, we met up with Charlie on Omeme for another meet and greet and a 10 minute break before heading out once again.
A gas stop, lunch in Bobcageon, a Timmie's break, another gas stop and several hundred miles later we arrived back at CanDman's...for a much needed dip in the pool (without the polar bear!!!), some liquid refreshments, a superb feast and a whole lot of getting to know each other :drinks: :praising:  :hi: :good2:
Thanks everyone for a superb day and evening. I certainly look forward to our next meet 'n ride... :good2:

Hi Travis,
The bike is running great. The new bearings, brake rotor, caliper, chain and sprockets did the trick. I should have changed them a while ago.

Just got home from the BBQ, what a great time...
Left Kingston @ 6:30AM arrived in Port Perry @ 8:45AM and had to do some searching to find a Timmies. Started to worry a little when 9:30AM arrived and I was still the only FJ there but we all managed hook up eventually and had a great ride.
It was great to meet some new ontario FJ owners... Charlie, Robert, John, Andrew & Michelle, Steve & of course Kevin. It was great to meet all of you.
It was good to see the familiar faces of Bob, Paul & Kathy again too.
Thanks again Kevin, you are an animal, and a great host, and an awesome drummer. What a great BBQ, best chicken I've had in a long time, and thanks for the comfy bed to sleep in. Went to bed with a sore ass from a long ride and woke up with a sore head from the BBQ. The swim this morning went a long way towards my recuperation. Traffic on the 401 on the way home was kinda crazy.
Looking forward to next time...
So... Kev had to fake a carb malfunction to cover for being too hungover to ride, well I can't say I'm surprised. :)
Good to hear all had great ride and BBQ.
I wouldn't mind hosting the next one in Sept. but would like to consult with Tiger about possible routes near here to make sure we could come up with at least 3hrs good riding time with enough daylight hours left for visiting and BBQ and then get the campfire going and into the evening for those who hang around.
Chris
Thanks for the hospitality Kev, wife and I had a great time. Good food, good friends, good fire makes for a great time. Enjoyed meeting some more of the Ont. riders. Next time I will try to remember to bring the FJ....DOE! That was a great concert, drummer was hooked up and the stage show was great. Until next time, stay loose.
Lets keep the Calabogie Cabins in mind, would be a great fall color run. :bye2:

Great pic of Hemi Bob and of the fire pit. Actually all good.
Paul, I will PM you my mailing address. If you can send the chip from the GoPro I can set up a tale of the day on video.
Damn Kev'. I can't get "In Context of the Moon" out of my head now for 4 days. I cheated and watched some versions on YouTube so it's firmly burned into the EEPROM I use for a brain.
The ride back from the BBQ was great though. Hope I didn't worry anybody but I'm a true night rider. Stopped for a coffee in Uxbridge at 1 am and rolled into the driveway around 2:30 am still bright and alert. Up at 7 Sunday to cover a fishing tournament back in Lindsay.
Last night I whipped over to my meeting near Holland Landing and the ride back was getting a bit cool with dew on the seat when I left the meeting hall at 10 p.m.
"you reflect off my sunglasses...." (tom tom roll) Damn. There it goes again.

Is anyone other than Steve and Paul interested in Calabogie...........if that's not feasible....how about something a little lighter....

Hey Kev'. Sorry the cell signal dropped on Sunday. Reception in Coboconk is virtually nil and I was in a crowd of noise. I had to keep my eye behind a lens for the next few hours after that, then crashed back at the house since I don't get much sleep after being outdoors for two days and editing video each night for hours on end.
I can't usually plan anything at all this summer. It's one of those things I need to change about my work & living situation. Only 4500 km this summer - how pathetic is that. If I can scoot out for a day run I'll meet up but head home afterwards. This week looks nice and I am itching to take half a day for a shot up to Huntsville - just because. It was 12 months ago this week that I last got there and it was beautiful.
Charlie
I'd love to do Calabogie, but unfortunately my weekends are booked till the end of October :(

Coboconk, , what a cool name for a town, , I want to live there :good2:
The name is supposedly derived from the local native "Quash-qua-be-conk" but the first white settler swallowed his tongue and died trying to pronounce it so they anglicized it to Coboconk. (best Bill Murray Ghostbusters voice: Well, that's what I heard!)
Locally we call it "Coby". So why is Bobcaygeon (derived from bob-ca-je-wan-unk) called 'caygeon by its slang name and not Bobby' ?
great explanation mate, names are about as weird as some mainland Australian ones, lots of native Australian ones used

All those are derived from Indian words, yet the one we make fun of the most in this area is Kinmount. The other villages tease that Kinmount was named after the favorite past time of the residents.

This video would just confuse the sh!t out of someone like that. I mean, where do you start to pick holes in what's wrong with it? LOL!!!!

*Most people don't realize.....but english actually comes from German.....shhhhhhh....Anglo-Saxon.........Saxony Germany......Beuller...Beuller......Beuller......anyone.....anyone.......... :mail1:
The term Anglo-Saxon is used by some historians to designate the Germanic tribes who invaded and settled the south and east of Britain beginning in the early 5th century and the period from their creation of the English nation up to the Norman conquest. The Anglo-Saxon era denotes the period of English history between about 550 and 1066.[1][2] The term is also used for the language, now known as Old English, that was spoken and written by the Anglo-Saxons and their descendants in England (and part of southeastern Scotland) between at least the mid-5th century and the mid-12th century.[3]
The Benedictine monk Bede, writing in the early 8th century, identified the English as the descendants of three Germanic tribes:[4]
the Angles, who probably came from Angeln (in modern Germany): Bede wrote that their whole nation came to Britain,[5] leaving their former land empty. The name England (Old English: Engla land or Ængla land) originates from this tribe;[6]
the Saxons, from Lower Saxony (in modern Germany; German: Niedersachsen) and the Low Countries;
the Jutes, possibly from the Jutland peninsula (in modern Denmark; Danish: Jylland).
Their language, Old English, which derived from Ingvaeonic West Germanic dialects, transformed into Middle English from the 11th century. Old English was divided into four main dialects: West Saxon, Mercian, Northumbrian and Kentish

Come on guys.....suggestions !!!!! if you don't want to post your suggestion(s).....send them to either myself or Tiger's PM box....we have have spent hours looking at everything in the south central of Ontario....but are not sure how everyone would like to do it. Does everyone want to rough it.....(camping/campsite)...or motel it.........Cabins/Chalet's .......or a resort......do people want to canoe...hike...fish...watersports.....jet skis etc......each option carries a different price tag...can cost anywhere from 35 bucks a night up to 150 bucks a night...............looked at camp sites..Inns....motels cottages...resorts...but it's all up to you..the group.......so please....we need your input if we are going to start planning this.....we can work on the dates once we figure out where....almost everyone has said they are in but no one has made any suggestions......except A11anOn.......and he has made 2.......one for Calabbogie

Nice and slow :shok:... sounds.........very interesting :mail1: ....whats that like?... :mocking: ...but Calabogie sounds like a great spot.....thought I would post this spot 'Sands on Golden Lake'......price is very reasonable..and everyone can book in when they want and stay as long or as little as they like..It's also "Ladies" friendly for the guys who wish to bring a girl... :blum1:...and a spa/massage centre for those who don't.... :good: ..................July and August are booked (weekends), but weekdays are wide open. June and September weekends are wide open. Now each room has space for at least two(maybe 3 ) but the facilities are excellent and it's an hour to Calabogie and an hour to Algonquin park. The rates are per night for the room......so divide it by the number of people sharing the room. There also chalets that sleep 6 which look very cool and those have a kitchen, docks, decks and a campfire pit (50 bucks ea. per night) I think it's perfect !!! :good2:......so what do you say? If I can get at least 8 riders to commit, I will ask Marsh to create an Ontario Rally Category. Lastly, please specify which month, which weekend, how many you are(solo or with passenger) and how many nights......this place would be awesome !!!!!

Maybe we should add a CPAP section to the forum.
You can run the machines on battery power with an inverter.
One of my favourite riding stay over spots only has diesel generators and they turn them off at midnight. The one power point in each room has a cover with little padlock on it and they will only give you the key to run medical aids, such as CPAP machines. You can't even charge your phone, camera, intercom etc when the generators are running.

This location has only the one weekend where there is a large number of availalbility and that is the last weekend of the summer. The 3 challets, the cottage and 15 rooms are all available for the weekend of Thursday September 19th through to Sunday the 22nd. Three Callets and the cottage are all beside each other, but there are also rooms available in the Inn if you prefer a juccuzzi and more privacy :praising: ......rooms and chalets are available on this weekend only but won't be not be for long. So decisions will have to made quickly !!! Please indicate if you are interested and available? I am planning to trailer the bike there on the Thursday and play a round of golf on the Friday at Killaloe (nice looking track for 40 bucks)....let me know if anyone else will trailer up there like me and bring their sticks. I might head out on the water Friday afternoon and do some fishing as well and then Saturday will be a Calabogie run and the Algonquin run on the Sunday.
The best thing about this location is that you can can come alone or with someone..... and they don't have to ride if they don't want to. There are tons of other activities........ you can team up and grab a challet, the cottage or grab a room. You can stay for 2 nights 3 nights or 4 if you like......you can come thursday...friday or saturday and leave....Saturday, Sunday or Monday. I think this would be a perfect way to end the summer. Let me know whose in. If this is not what everybody would like to do, then I gladly pass the torch to anyone who has any other suggestions.

The ladies don't like roughing it much and alot of the members in ontario would like to bring their women. But if everyone wants to tent it....then I am open to any and all suggestions....... Where ever we go I need power...got sleep apnea and without machine...let's just say no body sleeps!..With all I got to take with me I might trailer bike to site and ride from there.
Welcome to the club sabretooth! Hey! We could have a competition!!
Just kidding. - but, yes, I will need power for sleep apnea too!
AND, if it fails, I have a foot pump, .... So we are all good!!
:good2:
Maybe we should add a CPAP section to the forum.
You can run the machines on battery power with an inverter.
One of my favourite riding stay over spots only has diesel generators and they turn them off at midnight. The one power point in each room has a cover with little padlock on it and they will only give you the key to run medical aids, such as CPAP machines. You can't even charge your phone, camera, intercom etc when the generators are running.
Noel
Yes, an inverter! Glad I thought of that!!!
Cmon out for a tour in tha great white North, Noel! Just a hop skip and a jump! Lots of scenery, good roads, cpaps, big fresh water fish, and FJs.......
Sept 20-22 looks good. Love to go. My wifey probably will come too.
I stayed here a few years back...clean and close to water and has cottages and regular camping too look at site its 1hour up from North Bay...have a look.

Howdy...just getting up to speed on the Ontario ride/rally/whatever it called....Calabogie is definitely on the radar. Have ridden through there a few times and is awesome riding. Nice big sweepers, smooth asphalt and low traffic. I am in for whatever happens that way. Might not be for four days, but will make the weekend. I will be riding there. Its the best part. My poor FJ has not seen many miles the last year so I need to make it up. :praising:
Cheers...Jake

:hi: Nope, with my brother and a group of Can-Am friends. We get together a couple of times a year to ride, eat, drink, tell tall tales, drink some more and do the same thing the next day/night hahahahahaha...

Come on guys..... Rally's are not easy to organize :flag_of_truce:.....but they are not that hard either if everyone participates (popcorn). It only takes a minute to post a response :bye:. All of you have expressed your desire for our own Ontario Rally :drinks: but it is not going to happen by itself :empathy2:. Out of the 30 Pm's I sent out...all of you said you were very interested but out only a couple have posted any sort of response.
I went on my first rally last summer to the 2012 NESR and I didn't know anyone and hadn't met a soul so I was very intimidated :shok:. But you would be amazed how easy it is to have a great time when everyone has the same primary focus...."to ride their FJ's" :good:. The other Rallys seem effortless and appear to happen all on there own....some individuals even travel across the globe just to be there....but I guarantee the first one was the toughest !! If we are going to have an Ontario Rally..you can't have one without having the first one :good2:.
Let me break it down
1. Which month ?
2. What location ?
3. Jack and Jill event...or just Jack?
4. Venue.... camping, motel, or resort
5. Duration....1,2,3 OR 4 event
These are 5 simple questions that take 5 minutes to write a post :mail1:
Are we going to have our own Rally ? It's up to you. I would love one....but it's not going to happen if 3 or 4 guys are the only ones trying to get the train out of the station.
Any and everyone who wants to participate has to get involved !!!!!! This will be my last attempt to launch this event this year :dash1:

How about full day ride Sunday, June 2 around Calabogie? I've done it before with some Boone buddies (wow, in 2004; where did the time go?) .
A month is enough time to set time aside... personally, my schedule is a bit too full to do more than one multi-day rally, and I do want to make it to Maine this year.
It's a four or five hour ride from Whitby. With a return trip, riding in the area, breaks, etc., it makes for a solid 12 to 14 hour day. Start early, ride all day, come home with a big-ass grin. Or, if that's too much, you can ride up Saturday, camp / motel, ride around Sunday with whoever shows up, and then go home.

Right on Bob..... I love the thought of running Calabogie....I was sure that's where everyone wanted to go for a weekend last fall. I guess people just get too busy...but ya I would definitely be down for that......I was hoping to at least do a weekend thing in Calabogie...but that looks to be a bit too much to ask from everyone at this point.....I will have to see if I will have CanD back by June 2nd....she is still in the shop have the engine ported and polished...I took her in in February thinking she would be home by now...but it's not happening.....I will let you know when I will be ready to ride......thx Bob for posting....can't wait to get back in the saddle

I see a Red Power Ranger in the back next to an 87', are you a registered power Ranger???
Well how about this scenario;
- Calabogie
- June 22nd weekend, after fathers day
- 2 nights, check in friday, ride saturday, return home sunday
- cabin rental or tent
- jack with jill option
Sorry for the delay, new schedule at work, spring clean up, boat repairs and motorcycle rides keeping me busy.
Just a side note, Lake Temagami is amazing camping, fishing but the highway 11 north is a long staight 2 laner, not very exciting to ride.

I wish I could remember names... I do know the picture was taken by Pierre from Ottawa (fjrpierre). He was on the FJR. I'm the one in blue. On the left I think that's Frank from Ottawa (you'd think I'd remember his name; we rode down to Boone together in 2003). He used to ride an '83 or '84 FJ. Can't remember the guy in red. Sorry.

I'm anticipating I'll still be rebuilding my situation but for sure I will mark down an overnight for Calabogie late September. Just have to target for it.
The nice thing is the trip to Calabogie from just about anywhere can be interesting if you stay off Hwy. 11 and any of the 400 series unless absolutely necessary.
If the 'one big blast a year' rally is not in the cards as an annual event for Ontario FJ's, maybe we need to tailor our ambitions to the circumstancs and possibly go with a less ambitious series of available dates to do day rides. Spread the locations across Ontario depending on who wants to be "host" (using that term very loosely) so anyone has a shot at meeting for at least one or possibly more dates and meet more fellow FJ riders.

It's official..... I will be calling the Sands on Golden Lake Monday and reserving a Chalet. Once I have done so, I will post the Rally....(Marsh will post the Rally) and we will have our first Ontario Rally. Once I have reserved the Chalet, anyone who is interested in attending can correspond with other members and make your own lodging arrangements. I want to take this moment to express my remorse for the recent animosity between myself and some other members. I am not perfect...and I am the first one to admit I am wrong.....I really wanted to see one big group of Ontario members come together and have fun......I'm not not just talking shit...I have opened my home and my heart twice last year with the "Ontario BBQ's" to make that a reality.....I don't know where things went wrong. Maybe in time...we can rise above the proverbial garbage heep and get back to the only reason why I joined this site...."to meet new people.....and make new friends". If my enthusiasm...or my over zealous nature have gotten the best of me..... I ask everyone of you to forgive me..and give me a chance to exhonerate my heart and my hopes for this group. Life is way too short for this nonsense !
Sincerely

We'll stop for lunch somewhere and end up "a la chez moi" for a swim and a BBQ :nyam1:. Party will go late...so if you want to crash....please let me know. The smoke machine and the stage lights will come on at 10:00 and I will climb aboard my other Yamaha for a small concert.......oh.......we will also light the camp fire around 9......so by all means....bring your own shwarm equip  ... any and all suggestions for the ride are welcome.....look forward to seeing everyone who can make it.... :drinks:

I sure miss the routes around Bobcaygeon. Roll out of the driveway and it's curves and hills for hours. Now I'm in Orangeville and it's a struggle to find anything of interest for more than a few minutes. Flat and straight for hours - ruddy British engineers with their efficient grid system.
Also I'm in between "engagements", so if I end up in retail I may be relegated to working weekends. I'll let you know when I know.
Cheers.

Here is a link to a route map that starts with what was done last year - in BLUE Blue.
The exception is we cut it short of Haliburton and took the green route back west because the day was running long with a late start and there were burgers and such to devour.
I'd suggest with a good start time to get up to Haliburton via the 507 without screwing around. Pretty place to arrive at and the way in is curvy and hilly. The way out to the west crosses some water and has sweepers.
Highway 35 is excellent in condition and has a lot of double lane now so you can make up time if you have to meet an ETA at Kev's.
This year instead of Pigeon Lake Rd from Omemee to Bobcaygeon, you could go east to Bridgenorth and up across the narrows into Buckhorn by the back way. Route shown in TEAL Teal.
Only 1 stop sign between Bridgenorth and Buckhorn. Nice scenery all the way. Nothing technical. Then Buckhorn to Flynn's Corners is not far and the start of the 507.
I tossed in a loop around Stoney Lake but it's nothing special. Most of the waterfront is hidden from view with very expensive and secluded private properties. Route in ORANGE Orange
Possible refreshment stops:
Buckhorn - Marilyn's ice cream and candy shack. Don't blink or you'll miss it on the left next to the pharmacy.
Haliburton - unfortunately some of the nice places have closed up but you can park and stretch the legs. There is a Subway and a coffee/donut shop near the hardware store north of the main lights.
Minden - no shortage of choices.
Coboconk - chip truck on the east next to the Buck or Two but probably getting close to main BBQ time so don't spoil your appetite. Dying for a coffee? Further south into town opposite the Home Hardware should be a coffee shop.
Beaverton - Timmies and a McDonalds at Hwy. 12 (we stopped at the Timmies for a long break last year)
The rest of the way back was hustling down 12/48 past Sutton to get over to the 400 southbound. Figure out Kevin's place from there.

What time should we meet at the Port Perry Tim Horton's (1805 Scugog St)?
I'd rather get an early start... there's less traffic and I don't want to feel rushed.

Sadly I will not be able to host the BBQ this Saturday or any time this year. I apologize to all of you who were planning to attend but unfortunately my desire to host another one this year will remain just that... a desire. Circumstances beyond my control have made it impossible for me to host it again this summer. From the first day that I became a member,it has always been my goal to become an active participant in this one in a million forum. I have made some truly good friends in here and hope to make many more. When Tiger first suggested an Ontario BBQ, I knew it was great idea and the start of something special. All winter long I was looking forward to getting back in the saddle and enjoying another season of riding and above all else.....getting together with the new and old Ontario FJ members .......sadly I have not ridden one kilometer on CanD this year or any other bike.....and it depresses me to know the season is winding down and CanD probably won't be ready until mid October. I am very happy to see the wonderful things Paul and John are doing to keep the Ontario torch lit...in spite of some pretty gnarly weather....I love reading and seeing the wonderful adventures the So Ont members are doing......I wanted so much to get everyone together and share stories...John....Paul.. Johnny and of course Ben and any other member with some yard to spin......what can I say........not to be mon cheri........Hopefully it will happen next year ...and I might have some tails of my own to share by then :good:.

Sorry to hear that Kev'. I didn't ride at all in 2008 or 2009 - forget which it was now. But never again will I let myself get into the circumstances where I couldn't even have the space to sort out the bike or afford to insure for a year (anyone in Ontario knows the challenge that presents). It's my sanity saver, after all. And I've got another friend in the same boat this year.
Things will swing the other way for you.

Hey Charlie, thanks for the encouragement....you were one guy I was looking forward to going for a ride with and catching up. When I get her back...I will definitely stretch her legs.....hopefully it won't be too late and we can yet go for a run...... you and me and anyone else interested......I will keep my fingers crossed.......
