Title: Rarest and most sought after...
Post by: Tor-King on May 29, 2012, 07:29:09 PM
Quick question:

What year of FJ do people consider the most rare or sought after?  Is it the first model year?  The last model year?  Was there a year that a fewest number were produced?  Just curious... :unknown:

In the US, Yamaha did not import the 1988 model year, as they had a glut of 87's.  Depending on where you are that's pretty rare.

Well in Austrslia the 88 was imported in surprising
numbers where the 95 they only bought twenty into
Australia and didn't import them into the US

I've often wondered what distinguishes different years from one another.
As far as I can tell there are some obvious things like color schemes, 17'' front as opposed to the 16'' front, changes to the frame, ABS brakes on later models and so forth.
But then what?

The only FJ I've ever ridden is my own one, the 1985.
But still, why is it that some swear by certain years? Is it the handling and feel, or other factors that creates this individuality?
One would also have to take into account the difference between individual bikes, as no singular bike is the same, especially at this age I would think.
Is there a list somewhere which catalogues the changes from year to year?
