I'm having trouble with the stuff between the fuel pump and the tank.
I have a 1993 FJ1200. I think this thing has the automatic fuel shut off, but it doesn't automatically shut off. It hasn't been an immediate problem so I've ignored it, but then the other day my fuel line started to leak and I couldn't turn it off so then it became a problem. Poured gas all over everything for a while while I wiggled a new hose on. It was the short hose between the tank and filter.
I want to replace the hose between the filter and fuel pump. It's a strange hose with a rubber bumper and a spring. What should I replace it with?
Should I replace my petcock or am I using it wrong or am I just making some other kind of mistake?

Someone is sure to confirm this, but I believe the valve under the tank before the filter is a "rollover valve" to prevent fuel flowing if the bike's on its side, a safety feature, and is not a petcock as such and with the tank right way up is intended to let fuel flow. Fuel pump models such as yours don't have petcocks.

I've got a 92 and the hose from the filter to the pump was dried out and cracked and leaked as well. Yamaha wants 35 bucks for it! I just replaced it with regular bulk fuel hose, 20 cents a foot. Put the spring back on, I suppose the spring is to keep the line from kinking while bending up and under the tank. No issues at all so far.

Actually, fuel pump models DO have a petcock. It just doesn't have a handle for turning by fingers. On the valve at the tank, there is a square, plastic end. Turns with an 8mm or 10mm (I can't remember which) open-end wrench. 1/4 turn stops gas flow. Makes changing the fuel line a bit less messy... :good2:

I stand corrected, sort of. What you (USA) call a petcock ( I still feel weird typing that word) is called a fuel tap over here and the valve under the tank would not be referred to as such. Just a difference in terminology half way around the planet.

It is a 1/4 with a 8mm wrench that stops fuel flow.
