Title: gaskets aint gaskets
Post by: ribbert on May 20, 2012, 03:59:51 AM
Today, I found a nice piece of road and wound the FJ right out, haven't done that for a while.
It's never run better!  Recently I fitted adjustable cam gears, unipods, re jetted, slip-ons, valves, carb o'haul and sync, yep, never gone better.

Then went home and started pulling the motor out.

About a week ago I noticed things getting oily down the front of the motor and right side of the bike and discovered a piece of the base gasket blown out. Buggar!
There was no damage to the surfaces and no crud in there when it was assembled. I also noticed some weeping in other spots and one minor leak on the other side. The work was done about 40,000k's ago when I re bored it.
They are the gaskets that came with Wiseco 1219 kit.
I'm not sure what conclusions to draw from this, if any, or if there are warnings to be heeded by fellow FJer's, but it's interesting to say the least.

It was also the first time I've gone fast without a bag on the back, smooth!  The bag clearly has more impact on the aerodynamics than I thought it did.
