It was on the news over here, that he was thinking about getting in to V8 Supercars. I hope he does better than Mick Doohan did  :unknown:

Well, neither Doohan nor Gardner did especially well in (Aussie) V8 Supercar racing.
But if he does this he'll be home and able to spend time with that foxy wife and new daughter.  And, he'll be getting out of motorcycle racing relatively unscathed, while he can still walk without a limp and still has all his fingers.  He shouldn't be hurting for money, either.
Best of luck to him, I hope we see him retire with that #1 plate :-)

So, maybe it is a good time for him to quit.

I for one will be very sad to see him leave MotoGP, and even more so if he wins the championship again this year.

He mentions family and long discussions were involved in the decision.  Having a new baby and a hot wife certainly moved him towards retirement but....  in the interview you could tell that the real reason was he did not like where the sport has gone.  Thinly veiled and between the lines was the clear sentiment that he was not having fun and I think that relates to the bikes going to 4-strokes and adding the CRT bikes.  One thing for sure- it is not a good thing for the sport of Moto GP to seeing a reigning alien decide its not fun....

Bummer for all of us but I respect Casey's decision....

I think the death of Marco Simoncelli had something to do with his decision as well, will be a great disappointment if he does but in the end its his decision to make hope he goes out with a bang and takes the No 1 plate with him!!

Apparently Rossi is going to retire too, both him and Casey are excellent riders

Retired 2 yrs ago but both of them will be missed.

Rossi has made it very clear that he will be racing for at least two more seasons...  He was never a favorite of mine but it is only the Ducati holding him back. I think we will see him crowned again if he can get the Ducati back on its legs....

I don't think it's so much the change to 4-strokes (10 years ago) that bothers the riders as much as the electronics, and I agree with them.  This is a human sport and a computer should never be determining how much to open the throttle. With the modern electronics, you can't recover from a mistake and getting a good pole position is more important than ever, and this is why CRT bikes are so infuriating for those competing for the title. The CRT bikes get in the way during qualifying and have prevented more than one rider from starting on the front row. At the very least, they should ban CRT bikes from the last 15 minutes of qualifying if they are not within some percentage of the fastest lap at that point (say 7%).
