Can someone explain to me the common practice on this site of pixelating, covering, otherwise obscuring number plates or just having them out of frame when posting photos of bikes. Presumeabley you ride on the road with them displayed for the whole world to see.
Just curious.
Noel
Yeah... I don't get that either. I'm a member on a few different VW forums and it's a very common practice there too.
Here's mine... come and get me! :bye:

Paranoia and fear of identity theft, I'm sure.
I've always wondered this too.
I assumed it was in fact and some variety of paranoia as well.
Dan
The guys that cover their plate do it because they have a gay vanity plate, I assume they all say something like ............GAY-LVR or GAY-RDR,
It's a free country though............or at least it is in California.
The reasons that most people blot out their No. Plate this side of the pond are two fold.
Firstly it is to try and prevent cloning.. Yeah I know that the plates are on display all the time in everyday life, so some would rightly say that it is a bit pointless, which is a fair comment..But you just can't help some peoples paranoia.
The second reason is to prevent tracing. Sadly the DVLA ,(the U.K. equivalent of the DMV) is about as secure as knicker elastic when the Navy is in town !!..
And unscrupulous people can obtain address details fairly easily . So if you are selling a reasonably nice car or bike and inadvertently display the licence plate in your on-line ad. Said devious scrote can pay a late night visit to your home to have your pride and joy away..Easier than doing a face to face visit to swipe your motor !!....
That's the theory anyway..

C'mon Travis,
You know it isn't free out here. Hell, I'll bet my property taxes are as high as some people's mortgage. :ireful:
You live in Sacramento? Same up there too, eh?
But we weren't talking dollars here, :flag_of_truce:
