I bit the bullet and took my stock 86 forks off to install an FZR1000 17" wheel. I got the axle in and the wheel would spin easy but was hitting a hard stop and only rotating about 6 degrees. What the hell? Pulled the wheel back off. The speedo hub was hitting the rotor bolts.

Glad I did not feel like forcing it.
Grind a little here and some more there and the wheel spins all the way around now. I hope this helps others doing this upgrade.

Hey Mark, get thee down to Ace hardware for some stainless button head bolts. You will have more clearance. They work fine on my bikes. Cheers laddie!
Nice calipers! Are those rotor bolts OEM, or Ace Hardware. When I ran the FZR wheel, I had no clearance issues with the speedo drive. I cannot help but wonder why you had an interference fit.
strange they hit, I'm using aftermarket Allen head bolts,with Chinese galfers on a late model yamaha wheel ? with no clearance issues, ?? is because I'm not sure what bike the wheel is off fz1 ?? uses a 22id x 44 od bearing , 17x3.5" so your fzr shouldn't of scraped bolts

Where did you get the new rotors? They sure look good. Mine have started to pulse when braking hard. I'm afraid it may be time for new but I haven't researched any options other than OEM and those are coming up as Obsolete....I see some on ebay that look similar to the one's you have. I'm assuming that you did some research. What do I do need to know?? Thanks. Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Seems a whole lot more like there is an issue with the speedometer drive than there is with the wheel/rotors/bolts. I believe in not 'over-thinking' the issue. Modify it and move on...

The bolts were pulled off the OEM FZR wheel. I hesitated in thinking of using alternate bolts for a critical system like brakes. But as Pat mentioned SST, very good material in resisting shear and might have a lower profile head. Well, it is free spinning now and I am not taking it apart again till I need to. Working on fixing some broken tabs and other plastic bits too old to live forever...

BTW, I just went and measured the thickness of the bolt heads on my rotors which are the original rotor bolts. I'm getting around .200 " give or take .010 depending on the bolt. HTH.

I used an 87 FZR1000 front wheel and my stock 91 FJ speedo drive and stock Yamaha rotor bolts with the Chinese/Galfer rotors and everything fell into place.
Glad to see you got it to work, just makes a guy wonder why one fits with no problem, then the next guy does have a problem.
I see you used the hard 90degree valves, me too.
Looks like a new Dunlop Q2, I have really liked mine up to this point.

The fit issue was a surprise as I have not heard of it up to this point. That is why I posted, it might help others. I like Pat's fix of using SST button heads with a lower profile and they don't rust. I like the 90 degree fittings as I check air every time I ride, make it easy and quick. I like the Q2 so far, getting around 3K on the rear. That is about what I got on the 16" Avon on the front. If the front and rear match mileage then I might stick with them. I have a new rear that is 170 wide as my 180 is machined off on the chain side and I still have plenty of chicken strip. The Q2s are more rounded than other brands.
I'm running a 180 Dunlop Sportmax D208, older version of the Q2, if I'm not mistaken, on my 5.5 rear wheel and nothing rubs, other than the chain guard (easy mod).
Chain clears easy.
I really like the how the 180 looks on mine.
