Title: back of the front wheel fender
Post by: delarbreavous on August 03, 2009, 07:35:36 PM
Hi guys.

my dealer installed a bigger than usual tire on the front of my fj 1200 1988 (120/80-17 in stead of 120/70-17)

and after that the tire made a hole in the back of the fender. the dealer told me that there was a flat surface at the back of the front fender caused by the heat of the Exhaust System narrowing the space for the tire.

Is he pulling my leg? is it possible that the heat of the exhaust system cause the flattening of the back of the front fender?

Alain

It's common on a lot of FJs. Can only think it is the heat from the exhaust....

wow, it has been a _long_ time since the "dimple in the back of the fender" topic came up.  that was quite the discussion a few years ago.  yes, it appears that heat has caused more than one fj fender to dimple.

yup..... seen it happen with my own eyes

if you are letting the bike warm up always turn the handlebars to one side or you too can experience this firsthand.

Has anybody ever bothered to make an upgraded replacement for this part that isn't so prone to melting?

I was lucky enough to buy a new old stock replacement for my 93 FJ12 - $47 I believe.  Yeah, mine was melted
flat with a couple of deeper "grooves" about the size & shape of my header pipes!
