Title: tyre speed rating
Post by: fangy on April 24, 2012, 03:11:44 PM
Hi,
Could anyone tell me if a 120/80 16 60P tyre would be ok on the front of my Fj1100?
Usually I run a 120/80 16 V, but I've got a new tyre with the P speed rating, which I'd rather use than buy another one.
As  far as I can tell the P rating is good upto 93mph.
Is this the only differance? I only use the bike for commuting back and forward from work.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Fangy.

It'd be fine.  P rating means that it's okay to run continously at 93mph (150kmh).

That said, I wouldn't do it, because I don't know the conditions under which that rating is tested at.  If I'm running 85mph for a few hours on a hot day, on fresh, very black, very hot asphalt, the last thing I want to do is worry about my tires.
