Hello All,
Does anyone know if a Yamaha VMAX 1200 clutch master cylinder will work on an '85 FJ1100? Also, what other models would match up as a replacement? Any advice is appreciated
The stock FJ master cylinder is 5/8, so if you're running a stock setup that will give you stock feel. If you've done anything to increase pull, such as two springs or a Barnett 6-spring, then you'll probably want a 14mm. I have some local salvage yards that had buckets of clutch master cylinders, and most of them will have the bore written in the mold, so just check that master cylinder and see what it says. Also, sometimes the parts diagrams will state what the bore is, so maybe check online and see if it's there.
Hi There :hi:
Not sure about the vmax clutch m/c.I have fitted 04 fjr brake & clutch m/c's (14mm) with the adjustable levers on my 86 which work well, imo better than stock.Hope this helps.

I did the same using 05 FJR master cylinders, which were both a major improvement for me because I have a Barnett 6-spring clutch and R1 calipers installed.
FYI, it turns out that he FJR front brake m/c's are 15mm (not 14mm like I thought)....just a tad smaller than the oem 5/8" m/c
The 14mm piston works better. The FZ1 brake m/c's are 14mm and match the FJR's clutch m/c.......
Just so ya know....
Yes, I discovered that after purchasing the FJR master cylinder. I installed it anyway and it's actually quite a bit better than the 5/8 for R1 calipers; enough that I don't think I'll bother seeking out a 14mm. It also matches the clutch master cylinder.
xjr masters are an odd match too,, 14mm brake but 5/8 clutch ?? only found out from swapping the nissin urine cup masters, brakes went from hard lever to dont touch the lever were stopping , and clutch went from light to oh shit im puting the leaky yzf master back on
