Title: Mods, that itchy feeling
Post by: Brian S on April 19, 2012, 11:23:04 PM
Ok, so I thought this time I would let someone else waste their money upgrading a bike and I would swoop in and get the deal of a lifetime. I bought an 89 with brand new hard luggage, yzf 600 wheels,yzf600 forks refurbished and revaled by racetech, fz1 rear shock refurbished by racetech with new custom spring,fz1 front calipers and master cylinder. and you think I would be happy right? Now after seeing some of the bikes here I feel I NEED to do the fz1 swingarm and rear wheel swap and usd forks up front. Is there a name for this disease?

I know the feeling about checking this site then making the mod list just to find more mods the deeper you research...lol

My excuse is that I want to keep my 87 the same as it rolled off the line (already messed that up though) so "close" to how it came off the show room floor. :dash2:

Congrats with 1/2 mods already done to your FJ  :i_am_so_happy:

Here's how to explain moditis to SWMBO: New bikes cost what, $12k, $14k and more?  **FJ's are a flat out bargain**

Why not take a couple grand and put it into mods? (Honey, I'm making the bike safer....you want me to be safe....right?  uuuh, right?)

You will end up with a unique, custom FJ at less than half price you would pay for a new bike.

Besides, it's fun.

I can't argue with that logic but my wife will try I'm sure. btw your bike is one of my main inspirations.

RDI........ Relative Duplication Index

"The odds of pulling up at a stoplight next to a motorcycle that looks exactly like yours"

"This is a FJ.... there are many similar but this one is MINE!"

nothing wrong with wanting to improve your machine.... we've found over the years that the true "character" of the FJ is contained inside the engine cases..... anything you can do to enhance your enjoyment of the character is a worthwhile investment.

Modern suspension
Better brakes
1350 pistons
Flatslide carbs......

The Fj just wants to transport you in comfort ,safety and style!  :good2:

KOokaloo!

Brian S, your situation in some circles is diagnosed as an addiction, I too suffer from this common, sometime incurable ----- thing. But the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, I admitted I had a problem to my wife just after I brought home the 9th bike (FJ1200) from the local enabler (Jack from Jacks Motorcycles). So, I think I am fully recovered and able to move forward and look for the next fix, er--- fork, ah chin fairing.
