Just a thought after speaking with someone who has worked on (many) Legend and FJ's...for the billionth time....if Yamaha had put the transmission locating pin holes in the TOP case...it would have assembled like 90% of all engines out there. EASY. Flipping a loaded bottom halve is bullshit (but there are ways around that) Still BS. Plus ....the factory manual sucks. It ain't no Honda manual....Christ...Honda even gives you factory lobe centers! :good2:

other than working upside down i would hazard to say it would be easier to load the transmission with the engine still in the frame!

Yamaha has always gone their own way. The Vision, XS-500, GTS etc etc. And ...OMG.....Virago's. I think the Hitachi carb float bowl gaskets are up to 30.00 each now....if they are available. Christ......the jets are big history and that is even from K&L. The FJ is just like the 83 Honda 1100F engine. Think about it. :yes:

That is how I do it. You can hold each shaft into the case and set it down on top of the upside top half without any problem, at least I can.
You could also leave the roll-pins out and load it all into the top, the roll-pin really doesn't do much.

I zip tie the gearsets to the case and put the bottom case on the top. It took several tries the first time I did it but it has worked well on several occasions.
Zipties work? I've been using safety wire. Hrm....
