Is it just me, or have we been getting hit with a rush of newbies jumping in, without an intro, asking their questions without any use of the seach feature of the site?
I like to help the next guy as much as I can, but shit, is it really that hard to search through the data base we have built up here?
I used the search long and hard in my early days here, and still do, from time to time.
More times than not, I DO find what I'm looking for.
Come on newbies....SEARCH and ye shall find your answer without pissing someone off.
Also, within 5 post, it would be nice to see an intro including roughly where you live/ ride, and what year FJ you ride.
With that info, you are sure to get more help than you'd ever imagined.
I'm done, continue on, and welcome!
Leon

I guess I need to share my unofficial title of 1st post moderator.....
It doen't bother me let them ask away

If the newbies looked in the files and used the search function then they would never post or talk to the rest of us. :wacko2:
there is a learning curve to getting around on this site and many just use it and never post anything.
So rather than just talking to the same people all the time It is a great relief when someone new takes the giant step into the fray and takes the hit .
go ahead and ask the questions , it keeps us on our toes.
Don't be skeert of the red power ranger.
A lot of times I have mails with questions or help requests due to my FJ web site
Usually the people is nice, present themselves and give thanks for the site. So It is a pleasure for me to answer them to try to help them and spend my time doing it
But there are people with mails like this
"Hello. I have a problem with... Say me where can I buy...?" Nothing else. No intros, nice words...
I don´t reply
The noobs have sorta done themselves in wrt the search function.
They posts so many topics that when one does a search a bunch of irrelevant info comes up. i do quite a few searches now and then and only come up with what Im looking for after a few attempts, sometimes I dont...
If you look at things statistically...
we have around 2000 members. The most online is around 150. Now even fewer than that post regularly - if at all. So it is nice to find new guys to chat to, though its best to chat to them in the "general discussion" etc boards to keep traffic in problem related posts to a minimun.
I will agree that it must be annoying to see the same question asked 5 times in a row by new people, but then again I have never really known this to be a social forum...could just be becuase I know none of yall personally
anyway that was my observations
I like the social part of the forum. And I laugh a lot of times with it... yes, Klavdy, I´m thinking of you :i_am_so_happy:
I was going to ask my first question, but I got my answer :bye2:
Just kidden :drinks: I've been lurking as a guest this past year. Since then I have aquired 2 FJ's an 86 street fighter and an 87 that is in rather good shape and main ride. I did a lot of "searching" on this site and it has helped greatly. You guys are a wealth of good info. I will now go back to sitting in a dark room keeping quiet. :boredom:. PS (first question) Did I use 2 many of the silly faces for my first post?
86 FJ Street fighter (I'll do an official intro post at a later date) :bomb:

I'd imagine there will be an influx every spring, as people are trying to figure out why their old bike, or the bike they just bought, doesn't run real well, or has other issues.
Don't get me wrong, a good way to get out and meet people on the forum IS to ask questions.
My opening statement, in no way, was to deter people from posting. Rather to give us a proper intro, and do a little searching.
After all, there is a reason we have a files section and dedicated forums all able to be searched.
It would be hard to believe that with the age of these bike, the size of very knowledgeable people here that have performed actual work on these bike, that there is still a concern out there that hasn't been addressed.
I say, keep the questions pouring in newbies, but at the same time, realize that with a little investigating on you own, you can most likely find your answer, or at least lead you in the right direction.
This would come in handy if not many members were on and you needed an answer right away.

Put stainless lines on my front brakes yesterday after work and cured the mush feel. (I read about it here as a lurker). Went for a short ride and mush is gone...whoot whoot. When out with the bike I was awarded the Key To The City for foiling the Jokers plan.

Why does it look like batman is trying to kiss the joker in that last pic :shok:
well I'm a newbie!
i got to say i love this site, makes a saddo with an old bike feel connected :greeting:
i think its a good thing that the site has so menny new comer's! it confirms this is a nice place to be!
i live in sunny scotland
i get in from work, deal with life (7 kids-wife, got to love em!) get a beer fix a friends motor (i do landrovers for fun)
find time to polish something on the fj, and then fight to get hold of the computer (normally a que!)
Scan flea bay, and then read on here, an get the inspiration to keep on with the old girl (fj not wife).
look out the window see that's its pissing with rain again an think lucky bastards over in the sun!!
yes there is a uk forum once i phoned to ask if the polished ends of the cooling fins were polished around the front of the engine as well as the sides, as i was painting it, no biggie i thought but no .... the doc wanted me to sign up for 20 gbp before he could tell me (sorry some one gave me a box to stand on !)
anyhow my two pennerth! for what its worth (an this site has a spell checker that tells me how crap my spelling is)
forgot to ask, whats the best tyres.............. :flag_of_truce:

Welcome!. I live in the rainy Tenerife
I left that forum because every time I posted that there are detailed info in my web to make the rear wheel conversion I was censored :diablo:
wow...hi Alf, :good: :good:
got your web page saved to my fav bar . site is brill spent an hour or so reading the other day!
love your diaphragm repair stuff from frosts ...... fantastic.
going to use it to repair one of the diaphragms i got from the uk fj owners club, bought a set of 4 only done 6k miles on them and found one to be split already.
and the guy keeps banging on about crossply or something...i hear what he says but things move on!
that place is just mega expensive, have you seen the "kit" to stop crap going onto the rear shock think they want £34gbp when i last looked...for a bit of plastic an a drill bit mad. (and you can only buy if your a member so mud flap now costs £54gbp) :shok:
Gona get me a car mud flap, maybe one with yamaha on to sort that problem....no sure where i saw that tip
Respect to you mate, you have spent your own time and effort to help others out, and i want to say i really appreciate it. :drinks:
Sorry all re-reading i think i kinda hijacked the thread a bit
Thanks a lot. Its grateful to know that my web is useful :greeting:
Dont use too much Plasti-Dip. Only with a drop with a pencil is enough for a little split. An after, use Castrol Red Rubber grease 5900 on all the diaphragms. Only a thin film to protect the rubbers
A trick for the engine cooling fines: don´t polish these. With the time you have to polish again.
Paint the engine with black high temperature paint (barbecue paint) and with a little sponge paint the fines with Titan high temperature aluminium paint
Pay me the 20 GBP fine to my Paypal account, please. Thanks you very much :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:
Sorry, I'm a noobie. On the several sites (car & bike) most don't read the intro's, we just jump in share info and gather intelligence as quickly as we can. I've never had anybody call us out, sooooo.... I'm Bill (hi Bill....) and I'm an addict. Right now I have four bikes Seca 900 (problem child), 1000R Aprilia (absolute beast), FJ600 (great commuter), and a Sporster (won't ever have less than one in the garage). I have a fetish for vintage wrist watches, and antique furniture, drive a 72 Lemans 400/400 car. I live in riders heaven, Socal, and I volunteer mentor at risk kids, when I'm not riding or working.
This site has already helped me greatly, even though mine is a baby FJ. I try the search mode, sometimes find what I'm looking for, but usually get an answer faster posting, or e-mailing the guys, who've talked me through several procedures and found me parts.
I greatly appreciate all the help you guys give and hope nobody is insulted with my lack of knowledge on these bikes, but I go through bikes faster than most change thier shorts, so finding a site like this is very vaulable. If I can ever help anybody in Socal, don't hesitate to contact me. Hope this brings me into the good graces of you bright gentlemen...
Welcome Bill, Simi_Ed is in your nick-o-the woods. And many others like myself are in SoCal. Some even farther South. Steve (AKA MoparMan) is likely to ride up tomorrow and ride with SanDimas Mike and I. Not sure if the ride will be closer to SanDimas or my backyard the Angeles Crest Hwy. You are welcome to join and meet a few of weirdos that love our FJ's.

I would love that, but tomorrow I'm heading to Willow Springs for the AHRMA vintage bike races. If you guys are heading up the creast, it might be something for you to check out. Hopefully I'll get to ride with you guys soon, I'll bring the Ape and hopefully be able to keep you in sight...
