Title: More polished aluminium...
Post by: 1tinindian on April 15, 2012, 04:59:41 PM
As some of you may know, I can't replace an aluminum piece on my bike without polishing it first, and these are some of my latest items to hit the buffing wheel.

Slave cylinder

1989 AL swing arm (1991 swing arms are steel)
And a custom brake arm (thanks Alan)

Foot rest casting mounted to the outside of the frame
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/1tinindian/Motorcycles/100_6245.jpg)

Front sprocket case cover
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/1tinindian/Motorcycles/100_6253.jpg)

Rear caliper and mounting bracket

You can also see that I have replaced the rear brake hose and the clutch hose to braided S/S.
With that also came the FJR clutch master cylinder with adjustable lever.

Thank you all for enabling me to continue the mods to my FJ.
It is a very different bike than what I bought just a few years ago.
Is it Rally time yet?

Leon

PS
More pictures to follow...stay tuned!

Looking good. I'm a sucker for shiny. My dad use to say as I was waxing my bike
"if it don't go... chrome it". My dad was definitely not a show guy. But his bikes did go.

Hey I assume your buffing these yourself. I'd like to see the tools your using to get those nooks and crannies. Maybe that not as tough as it looks??
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Mike.
Yes, I do it all myself, and some of the tight areas are hard to get to, but I keep at it until I'm happy with it.
These are the tools of my craft.

Where do you get the buffing wheels for the die grinder? I usually only see the wheels for a bench top buffer. 1/2 and up hole in them.

I've used Eastwood for years for stuff like that.  They also have home-use powder coating systems!

Nice work Leon, you make Fr Paddy proud. Nothing like showing off the *soul* of aluminum, right?
To enhance all your left side engine work, you need one of these:

I start with the red, as it seems to work best for me.
I've tried the blue, but not real impressed with it, so I usually go straight to the Simichrome with a new pad, and then finish it with Simichrome by hand.

Cheers.
