Title: Mill in XJR400R
Post by: Dads_FJ on April 07, 2012, 10:06:45 PM
Anyone know what other bike Yamaha may have used this engine in?  1994 Yamaha XJR400R - Looks like a fun scoot.

I wish I knew
Ive got one, cracked the sump on a pothole bad enough to leak oil, didn't realize till 40 miles later at 90 mph and the left hand big end broke :shok:
been looking for a new engine since
I didn't realize these bikes were available in the states, was told that they only went to limited markets (far east, Japanese home market, Australia and for some reason Germany)
Apparently pre diversion xj 600s will fit  so I would guess that the xj 400 would be the same but again I am not completely certain and don't know about availability

Looks like the Radian 600 motor will fit. The xs400 motor was a twin. The only other US Yamaha 400 that was a 4 cylinder that I know of is the FZR400.

Yes the radian motor will fit.I would have putb one in mine but was told the cost of insurance was more than the bike was worth as it would have been classed as a modified/ special
there seems to be a lot of smaller engined models produced which weren't sold in Europe or the U.S I have seen pictures of an Fj600 and heard of fj400 s but Ive never seen these in the meal so I may well be wrong (yet again) about there existence

Absolutely. I've owned 2 of them years ago. I remember a very low seat height.

Great starter bikes too.
My son started riding his at 15 yrs old, and now he is teaching his girlfriend to ride on the same Radian.
