Title: My FJ about eight weeks away. (Fingers crossed).
Post by: Timbo-1 on April 05, 2012, 05:34:01 AM
Hi all,

Have been back to New Zealand a few weeks ago to unlock the time vault...(FJ 1200 in storage), plus alot of other things we left behind seven years ago.  :cray:

I prepered her well for hybenation (I hope) and emerged the same as I left her. Had removed all fuel/oil and oiled bores etc and sprayed with CRC.

Have had a quote for shipping and am now waiting for the import permit...(Pre 1989 scheme). I have to Kawa 90cc that are coming as well.  :good2:1969 GA1 and GA3.

Looking forward to firing her up again.. :yahoo: Bring on the next rally  :dance2: :dance2:

Cheers Timbo.

very nice Timbo, :good2:

what year etc is the Kawasaki 90 ?? I had a green one no lights, around 1975 ??

Just got back from Sydney, picked up FJ number 5, now 2 x 1100's & 3 x 1200's  :dash2:

This ones a Grey White 1988, import, seen some salt air, but only want it for more bits, owner got it 2 weeks ago, 53,000 km's , swapped motors with his
120,000 & sold it again. He paid $2,600.00 & I just got it for $600.00  :yahoo:

Now I better start work to get one nice 12 made out of the 3  :bye:

Good on ya Megsy....ya can never have enough FJ's

Kawa 90's are 1969 GA1 which is a road bike and a GA3 which is a trail bike. They use the same engine, rotary disc on the side and like all Kawa's at the time love to rev.

I have a shit load of spare engine parts, (encluding one complete reconed engine ready to go after restro). In New Zealand at the time the engine was used in a farm bike called a "Mountain Goat". Thats where I gathered most of the engines from over the years.

I've had the GA3 since 1979 and picked the GA1 up about 8 years ago. Both need restro but are complete apart from centre stands and a few other small parts for the GA1. Keep your eyes open for me and give me a call if you see any thing around.

I,ve encluded a couple of photos.(http://i39.tinypic.com/fz2br.jpg)(http://i41.tinypic.com/2qs5spe.jpg)

This one is what the GA3 should look like.(http://i42.tinypic.com/2znzmvq.jpg)

Alot of work involved but will be great when finised,
Cheers Timbo

Mate you will get sic of my pics  :empathy:

You see em on here & FJR site

The FJR doesn't get much use, about 4 rides a year & only 2 leave the city limits

By the time I try & do the Vintage Japanese club rides on the RD 250 & YL2 100, doesn't leave much time for the 1100 & 1300,  :cray:

Then soon hopefully I will have the Z1300 kwaka & one of the FJ1200's registered, I'll have to draw the keys out of a hat  :unknown:

Megsy,

How many of that collection are registered?
Must cost you a fortune if they all are, especially with the NSW annual roadworthy check added on.

My second bike is not only the same make, model and colour, but by some amazing stroke of luck it even has the same rego number!

Sadly they look good in the pics, but the 2nd 1100 is a parts bike, & the grey 1200 I just bought will probably end up the same way :cray:

The first 1100 is on full rego as is my FJR 1300, the RD 250 & YL2 100 are on vintage rego.

The 2 red & white 12's are still in project stage, 1 has 32,000 km's it will be made the show bike, the 1100 & 1200 should complement each other side by side :good2:

The other 12 I want to make a  ride bike, that was the main reason for getting the latter grey bike, to get the 17" wheel & bigger brakes, I have the 17 rear
& swing arm ready to go.

Just need time :cray:

(oh & one day the 11 & 12 may have the same number plate & side covers with 1100 on them)

FFS, come on fellas. I'm going to get a complex. Oh well, I'd better start planning to pull the engine to clean and paint, dip the headers, re-powdercoat the rims, order some go faster shiny bits from Randy, ummm, I'll think of more.  :wacko2:

No sorry to say there was a fluck up with the first import permit for the GA3. It was issued as a "non transport equipment", which meant once in Aus it couldn't be registered for the road.

Cut along story short I know have all three import permits issued under the pre 1989 scheme. So can be registered.

It was a real drama dealing with with "Dept of Infrastucture and Transport". They are painfully SLOW, won't reply to emails, and three people on the help desk....(when you can get through) all told me a different story... :dash2:..

Yeah, so lets see what AQIS can do when they get here... :shok:..can't wait. Although I have had them proffessonally cleaned. Here's hoping :dance2:

So still six to eight weeks away depending how fast/slow Allied Pickford the movers are.

Cheers Timbo...will keep ya posted.

Allied Picfords are dealing with everything and shipped to door here in Benaraby. Just hope like hell the bikes are clean enough. We have a heap of other stuff which is coming in the same shipment.

Hi all, bikes have cleared customs.. :yahoo:...but are now  having a debate with Allied Prickfords....(I mean Picfords). They are trying to charge a customs broker fee of $480 to have the three bikes valued??? Only had to pay GST of $240 for the FJ. No duty on all three as they are over 12 years old. I've been talking with customs and have been advised it is not necessary to have them valued if importing under the "Pre 1989 scheme".  Also they now want exta $$$ to get bikes to home address in Benaraby, above the origanal quote from the N.Z. end, not a happy camper!!
If anyone has any experience of these proceedings please let me know.

Hi Jeff P, On a more positive note, bought a "Motbatt" off Flea bay, $105 to the door.... :good2:

Hi Timbo.

Hopefully the "motbatt" does the job.Should be better than a standard lead acid battery.I was impressed with the ballistic  batteries specs,410cca,20a/h and 1.1kg weight. The motbatt has 190cca,16.5a/h and 5kg weight, but half the price!.The ballistic battery is probably overkill anyway.

Hi Flips and Leather skin, yep the Motobat should do the trick,  :good2: thats if I ever get a bike to put it in... :dash1:
Latest is I'm up for three valuations and GST on the FJR, just over $900 all up.... As for the shipping to Gladstone I think that it may be covered from the N.Z. end as it was not  told to us at the time but they are trying to shove the costs on to us.. :negative:.
Phone # is 0409037440 Leather Skin, keen for a meet up some time, what year is your bike?
