Title: New owner, couple questions
Post by: Toy4Bob on April 03, 2012, 06:22:46 PM
The gauge cluster seems to be rubber mounted, and shakes quite a bit when ridnig.... normal or something is lose?

On both sides I am missing something that attaches to the intake fairings, assuming they are plastic accent trim pieces.  I have no idea what they are called to search for replacements.... so, what are they called, and is it possible to get?

1989 FJ1200

Oh, and has anyone tried the belly fairing from http://www.beasleycomposites.com/images/Drag%20Bike%20images/Yamaha/132.gif (http://www.beasleycomposites.com/images/Drag%20Bike%20images/Yamaha/132.gif) ?  BTW, the site states $108, but I emailed them and it is $158 plus shipping.

The rubber mounting spacers (2 on each side, 4 total, each about 1/4" thick) have hardened up and shrunk over the years.  You'll have to pull your fairing off.  There are 2 bolts holding the cluster to the fairing frame.   And add some 1" OD x 3/8" ID (or approximate) rubber washers to each side as needed and tighten it back up. The washers can be bought at the hardware store.  In the mean time, you can shove a couple of rubber washers between the cluster and inner fairing  at the bottom of the cluster until you have time to remove the fairing for the proper fix.

Try a search here under OEM parts. http://www.powersportsplus.com/ (http://www.powersportsplus.com/) $32 each!  ouch.  There may be other sources.

You want to be careful when doing this, I recall a lister a few years ago that tightened up his guage cluster and then had a fuel gauge come apart.... maybe some rubber hose cut to the same length or very slightly longer than the current rubber pieces. I wouldn't make the cluster too much tighter than it is...
