Title: Building Custom Midpipes so you can install any muffler on your FJ
Post by: candieandy on April 03, 2012, 10:22:29 AM
Hey guys,

I have successfully made mid pipes for the FJ and now have Yoshimura RS-3 Carbon FIber mufflers on the bike. The mufflers originally fit a 2004 Hayabusa, so they are big. the inlet pipe diameter is 2 1/4" ID on the Yoshi mufflers. I am utilizing the stock FJ down pipes and collector box. The collector box outlet diameter is 1 3/4" OD. The material for these pipes cost me 50 bucks and were pre-bent. Here are some pictures, so everyone can see how they turned out.

I had to heat the collector box outlet pipes to accomodate for my wider  R1 swingarm( or the mufflers would rest against it), so if you are running the FJ swingarm, you wont need to do that.

I can get measurements, if needed.

Very cool Andrew! How do they sound? Loud? Where did you get the mid pipe material?  Looks to be stainless steel. Do the welding yourself?

Hey guys, they sound awesome, but i think the packing is wasted and needs replaced. they are loud. i will try to shoot some video footage of it starting and running and post that up here. I would describe idle as a very low end note, sounds very mean and  it sounds like i have installed cams on my bike when it is idling( My engine is all stock).

I bought the materials at Woolf Aircraft Products in Romulus, MI.  it is stainless 304  16ga. i had a coworker weld it up. I haven't  TIG welded yet, but he is going to show me how, and let me go on some piping later this month. the welds aren't perfect, but they are solid and i can clean them up before i polish the pipes.

Heres a link to the company, and if anyone wants to get their hands on material to do this, let me know. I would be willing to pick it up and have it shipped for you guys.
