Since I've had the bike home I have stripped the outside bits off, oiled & started it and fixed a couple of fuel leaks- after 18 months of non running she goes!!!
I will now have to give it an official name.
Gender specific????
Today I purchased some pearl white ready to repaint when I finish the repairs.
I noticed twin black scoop guards on the later FJ1200's and wondered if they were after-market?

The 89 in the pic is missing the OEM single scoop "protector", at least on that side. Some of the earlier FJs had a double plastic "protector" stock. Got any pics of what you're looking for?

waricle,
When I remove the black plastic scoop protector shown in this pic,
(http://i26.tinypic.com/14kuo38.jpg)
the holes look just like the ones in the pic you posted.
Hope this helps...
Cheers,

Thanks for the scoop protectors pics.
I have had to repair a few cracks in the scoops so I will make myself some new solid protectors from either graphite/nylon or delryn.
I think I will add an extra mounting point on the frame as well for some decent support.
I will submit pics with progress.
I spent the day repairing fairing bits- I am just having too much fun!!
I have a brand-new pair of scoop protectors I've been saving; I'll have to dig them out but in the next couple of days I'll take some better pics and post them.
Cheers,
threejagsteve
Thanks for the help,
I think I will go with something with a bit more support and protection.
I will probably make something myself- with a couple of more fixing poitns on the frame.
waricle,
I just saw your reply, but here's the pic anyway since I already took it... ;)

And this gives me the chance to tell about how I thought I had a matched pair, the bags have left-and-right part numbers on them, but when I opened the bags for the first time ever to take this pic, I found that inside the bag marked with the left-side part number was actually a second right-side part! Now, since I bought these about 10 years ago, convincing the dealer that it was their fault is going to be a good trick! LOL
Moral of the story? Just because the correct part number is on the outside of the package doesn't mean that's the part that's actually IN the package - check your parts orders before you leave!
I will check to see which side is the one I need,
I may yet buy one from you -if it is for sale-
We are having a balmy winter, about 23c during the day and about 11c at night.
I hope to be fully mobile by October- our Spring.
Gooday threejagsteve
It so happens I am in need of a right hand side piece.
If you have one to spare...
Please let me know if & how much.
I seem to have cured the fuel leak anyway.
waricle,
If I can't talk the dealer into an exchange. I will let you have it for the same price I paid 10 years ago, plus postage.
It'll be a few days before I can go there, but I'll let you know.
Cheers,
threejagsteve
