I am picking up an 84 FJ1100 tomorrow. The bike is in pretty decent shape with 23000 miles on it. It fired right up with no problems when I went to look at it. It needs a new battery and rear tire as well as some cosmetic work. I am picking it up tomorrow afternoon and am pretty excited about getting it home. The only thing that I know for sure that I will need to find is a gas cap. I am sure there will be more once I start getting it road worthy. Here is a picture of it.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I didn't think it was too bad of a deal for $500. How hard is it to find parts for these things? I know they made them for quite a few years but I have not seen too many of them for sale (craigslist or ebay) and not many parts for sale either. Excited about picking it up, wish it was 5pm already. lol
Bigfoot,
Sounds like a great buy to me! Out here on the Left Coast, anything in the literbike class, even the early Kawi 1000s, rarely goes for less than a grand unless they're wadded or just plain worn out.
Last summer, I made the pilgrimage to a not-too-distant motorcycle "megamall" that sells all the major brands (except BMW) and I didn't see a THING that could compare to the combination of power, handling, and (relative) comfort that an FJ provides! I bet you're gonna love it!

Got the bike home, got a little juice in the battery and it fired right up. I took it for a ride and it seems to pull very strong. What is the idle supposed to be set at? It seemed way to low. It also stumbled some at low rpm's. Looks like I will be cleaning carbs.
Idle should be 950 - 1050.
If you haven't already, join the Yahoo FJ1100/1200 group http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/yamahafj/ (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/yamahafj/) and look in the Files section for many helpful how-to's.
Hope this helps...

Welcome Bigfoot,
Because the FJ engines are used in Legends Racers, engine parts are not a problem and for the same reason the rest of the parts show up pretty regularly on Ebay. Finding decent body work is tough. As for your immediate need of a gas cap, thats a tough one too. It was only used on the '84-'85 models, but be patient, I'm sure one will show up.

Hi, Bigfoot! I just joined the forum, but I've had my fj1200 for a while. I'm in Lenexa and get the ole' girl out on a pretty regular basis, rides to lawrence, leavenworth, etc. This is my second fj, so I've been around 'em a bit. If I can give you hand with your new bike, lemme know.
Hello and welcome.
Nice find. First of the big FJ's, very nice. I am sure you will be out and riding in no time.
Later.... :bye2:
