Good evening one and all. My name is Garion and I just got an very nice, well taken-care of 1989 FJ1200. 16,360 miles on the clock.
I saw it on a craigslist ad while I was looking for a sport-tourer and (shame it was) I had never really considered the FJ. I was a Honda man, and as such was pretty pigeonholed into the ST-series - or, as fate had it, a PC800 that was for sale locally. (Scary to contemplate the roads almost traveled, huh?)
After I saw some pretty decent pictures of the bike on CL, I googled the FJ and the first few hits were this group and all of the adoration you all have for the model. After reading through several posts, I went and checked out the FJ and gave a deposit.
After a few very long days of trying to get the girl from Alabama and titled in Florida (and paying for a whole year's worth of title fees for the two weeks that it is prior to my birthday...grr...) I finally got to take her out yesterday night. And then this morning. And then about two hours ago.
120-ish miles and no regrets so far. I meant to post earlier, but - c'mon, the streets were calling.
I'll get up pictures later on, in the daylight. My camera flash won't do any justice to that blue/black and gold paint job. I just thought you all would like to know that you contributed in no small way to my decision.
Thanks!
woo hoo! NOthing better than finding a new love!
Glad we could help with your desicion.... everyone wins!

...a good excuse to go!
I'm planning to run up your direction in a couple of weeks to visit the battleship Alabama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Alabama_%28BB-60%29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Alabama_%28BB-60%29)) and submarine Drum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Drum_%28SS-228%29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Drum_%28SS-228%29)) in Mobile, Alabama. I've seen them in the past, but need a reason to make an FJ trip.
Probably leave work on Friday, jet up to Mobile and see the ships & planes on Saturday morning, then (possibly) swing through New Orleans for a quick visit, then home.
You're welcome to join, if you like.
Steve
Welcome, Garion.... You got the best color/year of FJ..... Bar none!!

=) Thought I'd throw up a few pics. Nothing you all haven't seen before, but, hey, this one is mine!

I -hate- that they left the "leaded gasoline recommended" sticker on this tank for so long. Now I can't remove it. Ah, well.
The owner threw in a nice set of saddlebags with the bike just because he found them before I took her away. I'd have them on if I wasn't taking her back and fourth to work and having to leave her in the parking lot.
@Steve: I appreciate the invite, and will probably eventually go see the ships in Mobile now that I have a good reason to go (above and beyond the destination, that is), but seeing as my only real riding experience is my old Honda, I think I should probably get some more highway miles under my FJ tires before I hold up anyone's trips. But, it is good to see at least one other member in Florida.
As for Klavdy... duly noted. Thanks for the heads up =)
On a side note - I want a Corbin seat! From everything I've read, its the way to go (even if the stock seat feels pretty good so far). Time to start stalking online again...
Thanks for the responses, all. I'll try to participate on the forums when I can!
Welcome. Nice find, and it looks to be in great shape. Man, with 16,000 miles, it's just broken in. Enjoy it.
Mark
very nice and you can't get more original than having a bike with all the stickers. I think its cool to have the leaded sticker .... you might find it makes the bike even more unique.
I've been stuck on FJ's since 87 so now that the fever has caught up with you... way to go. You will like the power and the high speed ...it becomes very addicting
welcome to the group
