I read somewhere that the breather in the fuel cap can get clogged up so I took it off & without consulting my Clymer or the internet I took it apart & I was greeted my a ball bearing & coupla springs committing suicide onto the shop floor. It took my sausage fingers almost a freakin hour to get it back together. I needed an extra pair of hands. tiny tiny hands.
Yea, that small compression spring and detent ball flies off, never to be found....
That's why we suggest taking the cap apart in a 5 gallon bucket. :dash1:

Someone more FJ experienced may wish to venture an opinion on this procedure. I opened my fuel cap, put a rag in the filler then gave it a blast of compressed air into the breather pipe at the back of the tank. A surprising amount of crap blew out and the "whistling" stopped.

Sounds like a good way to clear the crap out of there, to me....
