Just got word that a friend and riding buddy was killed earlier today on US28 in NC. Ashwin Gopal was a great guy and a really talented rider.
Reports have it that he washed the front end in a fairly low speed corner on the "hellbender" section and slid headfirst into an oncoming car.
A few of you may remember him from the Indy Moto GP. He was the Indian we 'forced' to sleep in randy basement...Like I said, good guy and good friend. We ran together at several trackdays and actually had one planned for the weekend after the fall rally.
Bill sorry to hear things like that. I've never met the guy but that doesn't matter. Not sure what section of 28 that is.
Bill, sorry to hear about your friend.....

I think it's the part around Fontana Dam.
its the really tight right hander heading from Fontana back to the Gap. Pretty much right where you head up to the crossroads from the lake on 28.
Sorry to hear the bad news. Hope you and his family are doing well and best of wishes.
I am sorry for your loss, and the loss of his family. I do not think any words can fill the void. I hope not to offend anyone, but I will pray for you and his family.
With Respect,
Murray
bill,
i'm sorry to hear of the bad news. hang in there and keep good memories of him fresh in your mind.
Man, really sorry to hear about this.
In the brief time I spent with Ashwin over at the crack house last fall, it was easy to tell that he was a truly nice guy.
Prayers to all his family and friends...

Right.
I figured Rock would be the one to correct me on that, but methinks he must be AWOL. :unknown:

Bill,
Really sad to hear about Ashwin. I remember him from the Ritz Thompson in Indy. Seemed like a really nice guy. Thoughts go out to you and to his family.
Sorry to hear that.
Damn.
Bill,
Sorry for your loss. I've been out of the loop recently. Lots of sobering news to catch up on.
Be safe, ya'll.
