you can get a set of straight rate springs for about 100.00.... rear shock is going to cost you about 600.00 for a penske sport shock setup for your weight..... i promise you will love the improvement in the rear and will want to upgrade the forks to cartridge forks to match the supple yet controlled ride.

Why don't you just lose weight?
You know, diet & exercise.
Seems the obvious thing to do, no?
The money you save on food can be spent on more mods for the bike.

I'm a 350 pounder, weighed 425 when I got the bike, at 10% body fat I will be 240 pounds. bet I can lose weight faster then you can learn to have manners, class, or respect for others.

I boosted the the front end with progressive over load springs and  love it, penske shock is on the way. Being an above average person I always boost my suspension to handle my aggresive riding and driving style.

No,you're morbidly obese.
As far as respect for others go, you don't even have respect for yourself as evidenced by your weight.
Manners & class?
Go stuff yourself some more at the buffet, that's classy
Just what a great fat cunt weighing 350 or more pounds can bring to performance motorcycle riding is a mystery.
So fuck off fat boy, there's nothing I post on this forum that I wouldn't say to you or anyone face to face.

Come back and post pics when you are down to 240 lbs.

I'm of a mind that everyone has to steer their own boat.... as long as their boat aint rammin into mine i've got no issue.

One of the guys i ride with (Big Dan 300+ lbs easy) in his black leathers he looks like a huge silverback gorilla humping a honda 929 but when the road gets twisty its all i can do keep him in sight.... he always pulls me on rt 66 from the turnoff to the store.... one time he already had his helmet off when i got to the store! ( he did get a pass on a car that held me up a bit but i didnt even get to see him pass the car)

he has properly set up Penske shock and special built traxxion forks to carry his weight........but the lesson here is to never judge a book by its cover lest ye be prepared to get schooled!

personally i just look in the mirror when i feel like i need to criticize someone  .....   i only own one mirror so it cuts waaaaaay down on the amount of criticism both given and taken.    :good2:

there is no cheap way . suspension stuff is always expensive but well worth it.

spend the money on some front springs and emulators and you can remove the chain adj on the rear shock and manually crank it tighter 2 turns then put the chain back on.
this will stiffen the rear end but it will bounce more because the shock damping is weak.

sometimes just flushing the front forks and readjusting the settings can make it mo' better.

Hello Joe, yea, to what Mark said.....Plus, don't go for progressive rate front springs. Go with straight rate springs, better yet, wait to see what Randy comes up with for spring rates with his new fork valves.
For the rear, a stiff sprung Penske sport shock is what you want.

As a FJ forum moderator, I would like to apologize for those fucking rude comments. It is no way to treat our new members. The forum rules allow free discussion but I personally cringe when some big galoot tells me to go on a diet.
As you see, many of us have known each other for over a decade, and we have no trouble telling each other to fuck off....However rude we treat each other, that's no biggie, but to do that to a new guy is just wrong.

Think of it like sitting around a camp fire, you may think it all you want, but if it comes out of your mouth, to someone you don't know, you stand a high probability of getting your dick dumped in the dirt....

This is where I remembered why every time I've been to Australia on business I couldn't wait to leave.  Not to say everyone there is like this (not by a long shot), but even including going to your average sports event in Philadelphia I have never been witness to more idiots saying asinine things than I have on numerous occasions in Australia.  Sometimes it felt like a douchebag convention.

But perhaps I'm wrong.  Maybe Oz is the first nation to successfully clone a human in large numbers.  And Klavdy was their first go at it.

I am curious big guy, how many douchebag conventions have you experienced with your tactile senses? Just curious. I understand maybe being in ear shot of the douche bag convention or perhaps smelling a douche bag convention. But, I am not sure how you feel a douchbag convention. I mean did you go to the douchbag convention and you reach out and grab a douchebag or two, or roll around on a stack of douchbags, fill us in.

Now the besmeerching of the entire population of Australia, claiming that every Aussie feels like a douchbag convention. That seems a little over the top. I would encourage you to simply keep it personal, as it is Klavady who is making you sense a douchbag convention feeling. Take it easy on the innocent population of Australia as I presume you would agree that most of them would feel like a normal human being instead of a douchebag.

Me, never had my body come in contact with a douchebag convention. But the whole douchbag convention metaphor does link in well with the entire cunt metaphor. Sorry, but time to throw a douchebag on the barbie, gotta run.

Oh, try not to take this too personal as this site can be a bit too much at times.

Yeah we`re a bit sensitive and need a hug, blah blah.......  :cray: but Shit this site is educational. Am I the only bloke that never heard of the term "Douchebag"?. (am I the only Aussie that googled it?).   I even checked out "besmeerching".

Most of us find it easier to use single syllable words like "off" or "fuck" or in a real besmeerching moments – "C_nt", (though never thought a barbie would improve them!). You can use them singularly (preferably with 3 seconds of silence both sides), or in any combination, to impart what ya mean. - and if really classy, but lingually limited like me, ya can use them as Nouns or Verbs - present or past tense, to hone your point of view.- geez, this week I dug deep with Shakespeare and  "Molongo Cricket" but I bet you guys didn`t even notice, let alone had ta google `em.
Aussies, like "Barry Humphries" make money out of it (hate him, but I love his Dame) - yes he`s exceptional,  – but we`re all different.  - feel us for yaself, March 16th 2013.  (popcorn)

Don't get too wound up.  Klav is a troll, and nothing more special.  Read through some of his posts, and you'll understand.  He's made a couple of friends that will protect him from all evil, because any sane grouping would have flat banned him ages ago.  The consistent theme in his posts is that they're typically offensive, and really bring nothing useful to the forum.

And please don't consider him a typical sample of the Aus population... Or, if that is typical, do remember that there are some decent folks living surrounded by assholes down there.

Don't read too much into posts by people with high post counts or inflated opinions of their worth.
Andy likes to think of himself as a pedagogue when he's really just a blowhard looking for validation.
Read through some of his posts where he drones on and on,pontificating and holding forth in the most humourless and excruciating detail.
Wonder when we'll see him at a Rally?
He can hold all enthralled there too, grace us with his sweeping insights into the arcana of FJ lore.

Please don't consider him the typical sample of the American male, he's most definitely not.
Not all Americans get butt hurt over comments on internet forums, just the ones with an entitlement complex.

I rode up to Daytona Beach for bike week a couple of times. Does that count? Seems to be the Granddaddy of Douchebag Conventions.

Took the FJ of course. All the Hardleys look the same anymore.

You may be correct in saying that I might be suffering from drug withdrawals.
Giving up nicotine & oxy contin cold turkey may have unwanted side effects.
But then again, it's more than likely that I'm just a douchebag.

No offense, but Klavdy wont be insulted by that, neither will calling each other pissy little names make any difference.

To the part you said in bold, you'll probably get a comeback like "maybe they exercise more".

Please dont take it the wrong way, I really dont mean to offend you, I dont think youre fat, probably very big boned, maybe you do have an actual problem, if so its not my business.

Just dont feed the troll

Either way, I hope you find suspension that works for you, you have already recieved the best advice

Wait on there.
You did ask for any cheap way to modify the forks/rear suspension to feel stiffer.
It was provided to you, and provided quite thoughtfully.
Losing weight is your cheapest option, you cannot argue otherwise.
No one had got up in your face about it until Mr Mandrake67 and 425 lbs started.

Absolutely true.  Damned shame that's not useful information for anyone who travels with a pillion and luggage, as otherwise we'd be able to have some good information for them here as well.

"Shove the bitch off the back" is not generally an acceptable answer to most, and "lose a bunch of weight" is approximately as helpful.

I'd start with things like measuring the sag and figuring out where things are, as that'll help ensure you get at least in the ballpark when you go to add stiffer springs in the front.  A way to improve the damping and control those heavy springs will also be useful, either with Randy's valves (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=6114.0) or RT's emulators (http://racetech.com/ProductSearch/2/Yamaha/FJ1100/1984-85), likely with heavier oil in either case, and probably more of it to boot.  For the shock, you can find places that will replace the spring with a heavier one, but the FJ shock doesn't have enough damping to really keep up with a heavier spring when new, and as old as they're getting, they don't keep up well with even the stock spring, so an aftermarket shock is probably the best option, unless you feel like doing very strange things to the linkage (which still probably won't work half as well).

Also depends a bit on what you're expecting from the final result, if you want plush comfort on bumpy roads or racetrack performance on twisty ones.

:flag_of_truce:  At 20 ya punchin above ya weight now, but great ta see ya have a go.
:morning1: I say congrats ta mandrake for the bike diet – maybe he could sell the idea ta Jenny Craig so we`ll see more hot chicks on Bikes, cause I`ve heard they dig scars.
The related but maybe off thread subject of pillion Performance hitherto mentioned is interesting. I got a mate that teaches Motorbike Mechanics at an Aussie University here and he added an extra oil reservoir to his rear shock ta keep it cool. Claims it made a huge distance on long Legged quik trips with wifey. Apparently the heat generated in his shock, (yes that`s not a misprint – sh is clearly typed) on many of our police free backroads, really affected performance after about half an hour of pumping.  (popcorn)

The consistent theme in his posts is that they're typically offensive,

And please don't consider him a typical sample of the Aus population... Or, if that is typical, do remember that there are some decent folks living surrounded by assholes down there.

Andy please be aware the same can be said of your country and U have far more then we will ever have  :rofl2:
Im only to happy to include Klavdy as a very good friend who will do anything to help out a real mate!

:flag_of_truce:    As a newbie myself on here, I can say that most have been very helpful in trying to respectfully answer my questions and offer advice.  While this has been very entertaining to read, I try not to be offensive as I have plenty of faults of my own. I appreciate the help I have recieved here and I look forward to making new friends.   :drinks:

I'm still around, just have work, hunting, fishing, and when the bikes not getting work done riding. There are many reason why a person is over or under weight, I just found the attitude of K statement judgemental and arrogant. Basing a staement/ attack based on body weight and not body fat is foolish since body buiders can weigh over 300 and be dang near zero body fat. A persons weight has little do with there skill in the saddle, it will affect exceleration and wear the bike down a little faster, but hey thats what mods are for.

As far as the sport bike world, an FJ is barely a sport bike in todays world.

And as far as contributing, I used to run in Turnbull Canyon in Southern California, the 100 mile drive on Highway 1, the Sierra Nevadas, Angeles National Forest, and even got 15 minutes on Laguna Seca.

Be happy that theres someone else out there riding, supporting your passion, be a person with a passion for life instead of one that feels they need to insult others to make themselves feel important.
