there has to be something for all the spiders to feed on.....
Here in my neck of the woods it works like this.....
It rains....... the rain raises the mosquito swarms since they have bucketloads of standing water to lay their eggs in.....
Then the spiders have to increase their population and work their asses off to try and control the problem!
here are the options....
A) a blood sucking malaria toting excuse for an insect mosquito?
B) a harmless spider that wants nothing more than to remove the mosquitos from the enviroment?
I will always choose option B as efficient population control over option A

I don't mind 1 or 2 little spiders that that is just a major infestation. The ground looked like it was covered in snow. If I were to, say, parachute into that, I would just freak out and die. Arachnophobia is a horrible thing.

I had a boardwalk sidewalk leading to my front door when I lived in Louisville, Kentucky. We decided to replace the boards with brick pavers for a more solid and better look. When I flipped the boardwalk there were over 30 black widows, some HUGE (I wear a size 15 wedding band and some were bigger than my thumb!) under that walkway. Worse, just the Saturday before my wife was sitting on the walk and letting our toddler granddaughter play around on the boards. Could have been DEADLY!

I only crush black widows. My wood pile is full of them. I told the kids when they bring in wood "wear gloves there's black widows in the wood pile". Strangely enough, I only had to say that once. :yes:
We get big honkin wolf spiders in the basement during the winter. They are big and freaky looking. They move fast and always run away so I don't kill them.
In the summer I get a camel cricket epidemic down there and I have seen spiders muchin on 'em. So hopefully the spiders are earning their keep. They (spiders) need to step it up though.

Yes, she is as big as she looks. Easily span my hand! We were feeding her those large late summer locusts that are as big as a thumb and she had no problem dealing with those.

the big ones arent the ones you have to worry about.... they are adults and dont waste their venom like the baby ones will.
i've been bitten twice by black widows.... makes me feel like ive got the flu for a couple days. small knot under the skin and itches like crazy.... even now years later i can get itches from the same spots randomly.
