Hello,
Searched this forum and it looks like R6 "blue dot" front brake calipers should bolt right on, and that an R1 radial master should work as well.
Two questions:
- Is there a better choice for a bolt-on master cylinder?
- Should I be concerned about negative effects to the ABS system? I can't imagine this would be a problem, but just want to be sure.
Rode my FJ after a couple months away from it, during which I got used to my new-to-me 2004 R1. After a few hours of riding the FJ and having to get a fistful of brake lever to feel like I was slowing down, I went out for a short errand on the R1. Pulled up to a light, grabbed a fistful of brake (having just gotten used to the FJ's more "sedate" sowing) and damned near pulled a stoppie. The overall goal is to make the FJ brake more like the R1 (keeping in mind that the FJ is a couple hundred pounds heavier, etc. etc.)
Thanks in advance!
Anthony
Any blue dot caliper from a R1, 6 or FZ1 before they went to radial calipers will work. If you don't like the remote resovoir of the R1, a FZ1 MC will work.
Xjr calipers are what i used, still blue dots, my master cyl is from a yzf 600 , so just about any will work, my clutch master came from a gsxr nissin brand same as yamaha use
What year on the MCs and did they bolt right on?
Xzf was 96 for the brake, 2002 for the clutch, bolt straight up, may need the banjo bolt they come with as can be different thread. Size and length (popcorn)
Up to half (or more) of the improvement will be obtained by changing to Stainless Steel braided lines.
Check the bolt spacing on your calipers to make certain the ABS parts aren't slightly different. (unlikely, but its easier to measure than find out when trying to mount the new calipers)
Cheers,
Arnie

hi there,as the guys say any blue spots will bolt straight on as will the silver spots all 100mm between mounting holes, as to the masters xjr 1200-1300 fjr 1300 and kwak zzr1200 all work well, its the micro switch on the masters that need some mods, as they are not the same good luck with your mod it is worth it :good:

So I have a set of blue dot calipers off an R1, and an FZ1 master on their merry way to RPM Racing for installation. That plus the Galfer lines should help the old gal stop a little better!
You *will* be amazed!
