Title: Big Footed Riders
Post by: miked on March 01, 2012, 01:36:21 AM
Hi All, I have been trying to find a set of touring boots here in Perth to fit my size 13 feet. From what I have seen in the dozen or so shops I have visited, all W.A. riders must have pixie sized feet.
I have had a look on-line at a couple of suppliers, but everything seems to only go as high as (I guess it is "Euro" size) 48. I can get these on with a bit of swearing, but they are pretty uncomfortable.

Is there any other big footed riders out there, that has found a reasonably priced comfortable boot ?

Cheers for the help.

Mike

G'day Mike.

While I don't have as big hoofers as yourself when I went looking for touring boots i didnt find any that I liked and was happy with the quality vs comfort vs price so I opted for these.....

I know ....not touring boots :flag_of_truce:...but sturdy, waterproof and can walk around in them all day.Im not sure how they stack up safety wise against touring boots.I bet some one will know. They seem sturdier than most of the touring boots I tried.

Hope this helps.Cheers :drinks:

Laces.
Not  a real good thing on bikes.
One day your laces will come undone or untucked, wrap themselves around a foot peg or whatever and prevent you from putting your foot down.
Splat.
They can even get caught in moving parts.

Good call Klavdy!.I had never thought about this regarding riding.I do however hate laces coming undone period and always tightly double knot them.I will be doubley cautious from now on.Good to hear your on the mend.Hope the recovery is going well.

Medal Shoes in Gertrude St. Fitzroy, VIC custom makes some great boots.
He actually measures and traces your foot, ankle, and calf (or instructs you how to do it).
My first pair I used for over 10 years and had him re-sole and re-heel them 3 or 4 times.
I finally gave them to the Salvos because they looked pretty ratty, they were still usable.
I now have had 2 pairs, slightly different style and expect they will outlast my riding days.
Unfortunately, if you're riding in rain for more than an hour they do soak through.

I've also used my CFA provided wildfire boots as touring boots.  they aren't as stylish, but are very supportive, have steel toes, and steel plate insole with fire-resistant and fully waterproof everything.  They come with a zip panel that you lace into the boot (and then tie off) for quick entry.  These are Australian made by a company called Taipan.  You should be able to find them at good workwear shops.  Price about $180 or so.

Cheers,
Arnie

Good strong boots there Arnie.
Anyway, Miked, how much do you want to spend?
You can get boots online in your size delivered in about a week. (http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/boots/all_types)

Cheers for the replies fellas. There are a couple I hadn't come across, so at least I have some more options now.
Agree 100% about the laces Klavdy, has a small mishap many moons ago, when a work boot lace came loose on my way to work, it actually picked up in the chain, luckily it cut through before anything nasty happened.
I'm happy to pay for a comfortable boot, so price isn't an issue.
I'll be over your way in a month or so Arnie, so I will drop in on that guy and have a look.

Cheers again for the replies.

SIdi makes some big and wide sizes in certain styles

this is one of their wide boots (waterproof) with sizes up 50 euro.

and these.....

I have a pair of the vertigo mega gore and find them to be most comfortable (and waterproof)

also available up to size 50 in the mega (wide) series.

the adjustable rear section of the vertigo boots will accomodate even the largest calfs.

I HIGHLY recommend them for fit, quality and protection.
