Title: Best oil for Queensland (Australian) summer?
Post by: Tengu on February 25, 2012, 12:48:29 AM
I know this has been discussed up down and side ways all over the forum and I have tried to read as much as I can...

I have just ordered the oil cooler and spin-on oil filter from Randy RPM

now the question is... what oil should I use?
I gather from reading that the standard is 20w-40 but some folks change that up for summer riding to 20w-50 and others use 10w-40 as a standard, or even as low as 5w-30

so I want some ideas please, it needs to be an oil that will cope with the Qld summer heat

I also noticed that my FJ doesnt like to start on a cold winter morning until the sun warms her up a bit (I gather this means the oil is too viscous in the cold!) so I might need a summer oil and a winter oil?

thanks folks

How cold is it in Queensland in winter then? I'm using 20/50 in England in winter.

Thanks Harvy - any suggestion on which brand and from where? ( I can see this could open the can of worms!) :mocking:

Eliminator... in ol' Brisbane town in deepest darkest winter it averages around 10 deg in the mornings but can get as cold as between 0 and 5 once or twice, much colder out of the city tho
