Has anybody on this board used them in a street engine? They are .410 lift with 250 duration. Also...does Megacycle reduce the base circle a lot like Web cam (though I doubt it)?
yes I have them in my bike
I'll get my thoughts together and give you some info
I'm running a wisco 1200cc kit on my 85
10:1
shim under bucket
ape springs
I have adjustable cam sprockets
I just have to set the bfdc as it says
otherwise the bike screams above 6k
i also have mikuni flat slides
Dyna 2000
4 to 1
accel coils...ape chain chain tensioner
great idle
just more lifter noise
I meant to say that they are "drop-in"
I went with the shim under setup to eliminate the standard shims from popping or lifting at high rpms
With the shim under bucket, do you have to remove your cams to replace the shims?
ohhh yesss
But it is something that gets easier the more you do it
I'll be doing a valve check before i ride this year
I have a complete set of shims in a box.
and some of the clearances may be tight...by now
I would think the valves tale a pounding with the lift and the springs i have
and the base circle is not reduced
Thanks for the feedback. I currently have Webs with .384 lift. I like the lift and especially the duration# of the Megacycle cams...it keeps compression up which doesn't kill torque.
I have run into problems with Web in the past with hardwelds as I alluded to. The base circle is reduced quite a bit (not just on FJ cams too) which forces you into the end range of shims (I run shim under bucket/ SOB as well).. If you try to compensate by adjusting the stem height you have to start sinking the valves which is not a good thing IMO.
Check your retainers for "egging" too. The shims will be loose in the recess. Personally I would DLC coat the Ti retainers if i did it again (always a possibility). Funny how Suzuki can use hard anodized aluminum retainers on the GSXR/Hayabusa series with no problems. I assume you have the 13mm shim retainers...Kibblewhite now makes them in 9.5 configuration. Maybe that helps? I picked up a set of the Kibblewhite retainers from Web about a years ago...I think they were only 100.00. They had another set there too.
the low end torque seems to have not suffered at all.
Maybe that is due to the fact I never dialed in the cams yet.
I rode a film guy on my bike last year for a triathlon (filming the women :wacko1:) and we had to maintain a side-by-side with the bikers and the runners up and down hills. 5mph and up
a fj is not made to travel so slow. but it handled the low rpm very well.
My over sized oil cooler kept it from overheating.
It was all well until the guy was standing up on the back pegs as we went down hill.
I braked and he went forward hitting the rear of my full face helmet and pushed it over my face, totally obstructing my view at 30 mph
Anybody have any input on the 268x5 cams? I was looking at the specs, and that's in interesting grind! About 12• more duration/overlap than stock, but an additional 0.085" (28%!). Megacycle only recommends it for turbo apps, but I bet it would be a runner for a street motor as well. Anybody? Randy?
The 268-5 would certainly have a sharp nose with that lift and duration. It would be just a little hard on the valvetrain.
