Title: She started!
Post by: dbelch on February 04, 2012, 02:08:07 PM
My old '86 which you fellows have helped me through its rewiring was finally ready to try a start.  After three hours of no go on the electrical side of things I discovered the problem was dirty kill-switch contacts.  That resolved, the engine caught after two or three short attempts..now a new mystery to solve.

Carbs were ultra-sonic cleaned.  Overflowed when I filled the bowls, solved with a few taps on each bowl to set the needles.  Held the turkey baster full of fuel no problem.  Once I placed the on tank  and the vacuum opened up the petcock, the fuel flowed freely all over the floor.  The space between the carbs and the heat shield under them appears dry.  Once the engine is cut the fuel spillage ceases immediately.  Going to be hard on the gas-mileage the way it is...makes me wonder if it is floats and needles if the fuel held until the petcock was opened?
