Anyone on here know how to or of anyone who has fitted a single sider on the back of an FJ? I know it might weigh more etc etc etc but i think they look cool and wondered if it was do-able or not. From customfighters.com it looks like they can be made to fit cos they're narrower but i was wondering alignment-wise and that. give me a clue guys......
I'm sure with enough time and money you could fit a single leg swingarm to your FJ.
However, unless this is to be a static showpiece you may want to consider that you'll need to reinforce the frame, figure out some kind of pivoting and fixing arrangement, make all the calculations on rear shock connections and linkages, as well as purchasing a single sided swingarm along with the whole rear wheel assembly including brake and drive sprocket.
I would think your cheaper option would be to leave it alone (other than fitting a 17" wheel) or to buy a bike that has a single sided arm & wheel.

why would the frame need reinforcing as they are both monoshocks. The other issue i've considered is that some are offset shock positions but i'd need to look closer at that and if you get it with the required linkages you'd be laughing wouldn't you? If we were looking at cheaper options we'd have all bought sensible cars and stayed well away from bikes in the first place. I've seen two with sssa in them Jumas on customfighters but he hacked at a vfr8 arm and one other but i can't find any info on that one (it's on the fjmods site but only one picture)

ha ha, that's the one off the fjmods site. I just sold my givi rack cos i thought that however practical they are, they look like ass. I don't like the colour or the front wheel lol
I believe anything is possible with the appropriate amount of desire, intelligence and resources (money)

When I saw that picture years ago I remember wondering why someone would do all that work on the rear end and leave the front end like that? (16" pig heavy rim and rotors, single pot brakes, etc)

I've read how he did that and effectively chopped a chunk out of the swinger but didn't appear to have bearing caps on it so i was worried how he'd stop it just eating the frame or vice versa. Looks nice though.

i guess there is the catch 22 anything can be cobbled up..... BUT.... its much harder (and more expensive) to do the job properly and safely.

The orange node is the work of Phil hacker boss of the UK fj club. Done many years ago simply to see if he could do it:-) he also changed the front end. The bike had over 180,000 miles on the clock.

Aha. Well he did say it was just an exercise. More than many of us might manage in years. At least he figured out the negative aspects of the single sided fj. Lets just look at what works.
