Title: hello FJ people
Post by: devilman on January 16, 2012, 10:15:30 AM
Hiya,
I've got a '92 FJ1200A Jap import that i've derestricted, fitted a Remus system, jacked the back end up and drilled the air box and stuffed a K&N inside. I spend most of the time trying to work out what i want to do to it next and how i'm gonna beg, steal or borrow the money to make the mods.

So, hiya to the guys here and hiya to the guys on here that i know from the UK fj forum.  :drinks:

mods are very addicting .

upgrade the suspension and wheels and it is a whole new ride.

I would do the wheels but it's the ABS model and i'm not sure if i wanna junk it or not. If i had the cash i'd probs go for an upside down front end and either a JMC rear or a single sider. Luckily i'm poor atm (5 month long 'holiday' in Canada that has stolen all my cash) so all mods are forming up on a wish list. First should be front calipers cos i have one right hand blue spot and need to get myself another one.

I agree with Steve.  The blue dot front calipers are the best mod I've done to my fj.

That's what I thought, until I did the 17" rear wheel.

I did both upgrades at pretty much the same time. Both are worthy of gracing anyone's FJ. The 17" added better handling and stability along with better tire selection. The blue spots made the bike stop so much better with really good feel. And I have a 15mm master, not the recommended 14mm.

Do both, you will feel it was time and money well spent.

I most probably will swap brakes and rear wheel, to hell with the ABS it only add's weight and a misplaced sense of safety. I also like the look of the R1 seat unit.....but obviously not the goddamn awful colour

That is one of the most beautifully modified FJs I have ever seen. But paradoxically, one of the ugliest ones I have ever seen.

Who painted that??? Should be taken out and shot. :flag_of_truce:

Nice bike,

Me thinks the painter saw that little pink stripe that was on  the 92 and said Hmmmmmm lets make it wider.... and then just could not stop.

But after watching the video -- wow that is sharp -- love the front end -- camera -- very nice.... I wish it was red.

Pink's only a lighter shade of red, isn't it?     Pete.

If you're going to pick on the pink stripe, at least get the year right.

1991 was the year of the PINK stripe. :good:

That's certainly an incredible creation (color notwithstanding) and the builder did an outstanding job, and I'd love to be that skilled.
However, at some point it ceased being an FJ.  More like a Legends bike.

While the colors keep it from blending in, the shape looks like just another crotch rocket.
Something I'd just pan and ignore out on the road, thinking it's just another squid bike.

"Look! I've got an FJ that looks just like a CBGSXR1."  What the real point?

Half the fun of owning a 25+ year old dinosaur is showing the unskilled squids that they're not as hot as they think they are.

....and the other half of the fun is having something that doesn't look like everything else out there. With the exception of the seat unit the rest of the bike outline is as Mr. Yamaha intended, it's well done and that is the main part, it doesn't look like anything else unlike most of the other FJ's out there, mine included. He's thought outside our typically conservative motorcycling box. I love it (except the colour) because he's fused together such disparate elements of motorcycling and made it stand out. At least, that's what I think......and I've had wine

Again, I think it's incredible work. But, "to me" it looks like he tried to make an FJ look like an R1 and succeeded.

I very much prefer the look of Tim's (Axiom-r) work.  It's much more subtle and retains the "classic" FJ look.

Just because you can make an FJ look like an R1 doesn't mean you should :-)

I agree, it doesnt look like a "typical" FJ (which I happen to like the looks of the FJ).  Instead he succeeded in making it look just like 99% of the typical squid bikes on the road these days.

Again, just a different opinion.  ...   And you know what they say about opinions. :-)

...... The FJ, is recognized as a sport/touring motorcycle.

I see mind, [with the R1nose and R6tail] 100%more sport vs touring.

A few years ago, I had a 04 R1 along with my stock looking FJ. And when I came back from a ride off of the R1, my back was killing me. [sold it]

I really like the feel and power of my 86.  But, looking at the front, .. I see a Mack Truck. [that's my opinion]

no matter where I go, it seems like all eyes are on my R1.... O mistake, FJ !!

And I do like having a bike, that few others have........ But, that's just me.

The funny thing is that the only bodywork difference with this is that it's got an R1 seat unit. The fairing is FJ with a different headlight. The swingam and forks are improvements over the stock stuff and the headlight is probably better too. I love the FJ (i've had two) but I also love to modify bikes so if i had a spare i'd probably try something like this but as it is I love the comfort and practicality of my bike.

Jeff, can you post a pic of yours cos it sounds interesting?
