I wanna ship a faring to nova scotia Canada and the cost is over 200 bucks fed-ex international ground.

post office won't take it cause it is too large a package. :dash2:
24"x24"x28" and 20 lbs.
Purolator is probably the next best bet as they will take a larger sized package ground and can be sometimes cheaper than post. Also there is some form of trucking bid, shipping system but don't remember the details on that one.

I ship a lot of stuff from the USA to Canada and I'd like to tell you there is a cheaper way but there isn't. Whether you use Fedex, UPS or truck transport they all use the same "cube formula" in your case 24x24x28 then distance factored. Considering the box has to travel across the continent plus cross a border you won't find a cheaper way.
This the reality all Canadians face when buying from the USA. On top of this the recipiant will also pay brockerage fees, fuel surcharges and possible out of area surcharges.
The only cheaper way for a Canadian is to ship to the nearest entry port and then clear the item through customs himself.

this is just my opinion but to get something that is more than likely no longer available (like FJ main fairings)
i would be willing to pay whatever it takes to get it.
you cant cheap out when dealing with things that are NLA.
that's just the way it is.

Hein has suggested the cheapest way, if the recipient has an address/friend south of the border that it can be shipped to and hold until they can make a trip across the line and bring it back themselves. I thought there were no fees/duty on used motorcycle parts but I'm not 100% positive on that.

That does work. My engine builder sends alot of Canadian customers stuff here, I'm 2-4 hours away from boarders, and right off the Interstste.

Your right that there are no duties or tarriffs on used or USA orgin mc. parts. However a commercial shipper such as UPS or Fedex will still charge for extras such as fuel surcharge, brockerage fees and in our case on Vancouver Island out of area delivery. USPS from down south is still the cheapest way if the parcel is small enough to meet their shipping criterea.
Remember the cube rule as weight is not a critical factor unless you shipping lead balls or other very dense items.
With brockerage you pay a minumum fee regardless of the value but the more the value of the shipment the cheaper it gets. With shipping the more weight or product you can stuff into a box of a given size the more economical it gets. Call it economy of scale.
If you can buy a part for $100. in Canada and it costs only $60. in the USA by the time you pay shipping and all the other possible surcharges you could easily spend more than $100. Now if you spend $5,000. and use the same discount scale you can save a bunch of money.
It sounds wrong but the more you spend the more you save.

Frank has a good point about nla parts . It is what It is.
While the weight of the package isn't much, what you're being charged is based on dimensional weight. Once you reach a specific size, the fees for weight are compounded with the size of the box. Even that faring I shipped to you, the charges were based on the dimensional weight.
I could have shipped you a complete desktop computer setup that weighed more than the faring, in a box that was about 1/3 the size and it would have been less than half in shipping charges.
