Title: Oil Restrictor on Crank Journal 3
Post by: nvmike24 on January 07, 2012, 07:46:11 PM
I was installing my Undercut Trans today and while cleaning up the cases I noticed that the Lower case on Crank journal #3 has a restrictor screwed into the case. My Genuine Yamaha manual has no reference to this item. I was reluctant to remove it for cleaning. It is brass looking just like a carb jet. Has anyone seen these in their engines? should I be concerned?

It is in all engines and it will unscrew if you want to clean behind it. Make sure you put it back in or you oil pressure will be lower.

Use Ultra Black Permatex to seal the cases when are putting it back together.

You only need a thin film.

Thanks Randy, I was going to call you about it today. Lil bit of a juggling act reassembling the engine upside down. After a couple trial pin alignment steps I had it licked. Starter drive slipping on other bike. Big job to repair as I've seen yesterday. Oh well, it has 55,500 mikes on it and needs major work now so I just hope it holds up till the 84 is back together. If not I'll be stuck riding the wife's 800 Vulcan, not your typical canyon carving knife that the FJ's are indeed. Waiting on Powder Coating parts to come back.
