Title: carbon can company silencers
Post by: josh vesey on December 27, 2011, 06:26:47 AM
hi folks,
im josh, and i have a 89 fj1200 3cv
Im gunna purchase some carbon can company silencers. At the minute im running standard carbs, standard air box, standard silencers, standard down pipes and a motad stainless steel collector box.
the silencers in question are straight off an xjr 1300, which i think was carbs. they have a removable baffle, but im not going to be removing it. will it run ok if i do not remove the baffles?
i was ander the impression that it might, but any help would be great! thanks!

Throw them on and they'll most likely be fine.  Do some fine adjusting to the jetting and it'll run better, but it should be reasonably close anyhow.

Josh, do yourself a favor and get a set of #40 pilot jets.  It'll run much better off idle and up through 60-80 mph.  I'd guess if you leave the baffles in the new cans, you can run w/o any jetting changes except the pilots.

plan on adjusting the carbs, you wouldnt want to lean the motor out too much by leaving the carbs stock.

is it best to go to yamaha for the pilot jets? or do i have to fork out lots of money to put her on a rolling road? if i have to put her on a rolling road im not going to put them on because i havent got that kind of money at the minute

No, they're common to the carb style rather than the bike.

If you want things really done properly, yes.  You can get 95% of the way there with some trial and error though.

They're just slipons, all they're going to do is make things louder, with minimal power increases.  Jetting won't change all that much.
