Hi there
Have just read in today's paper that the Victorian State Government are going to adopt a number recommendations in a road safety audit report. Including in the recommendations are the introduction of front registration plates for motorcycles to improve their visibility for speed and red light cameras. I wonder if the govt plans to try and 'retrofit'' old bikes or just apply the new law to new bikes? My guess is that the new law will be for new registrations only as it may be to difficult to supply suitable plate mounting brackets etc for every older bike on the road and also supply old 'new''plates. The responsibility for fitting then shifts to the importer/dealer. Makes owning an older bike such as an FJ even more appealing!
I thought the Govt. gave up on that one last year after 5 years of trying because it proved impossible to come up with a uniform design that could fit all bikes, consider rider and pedestrian safety, headlight shadow and manufacturers threatening to void warranties due to cooling interference. This is all because some dumbass didn't think about bikes when deciding on camera technology. The idea was to have cameras that captured the drivers face. They estimated it would cost $70 million in Victoria alone, paid for by guess who. There is only one country in the world that has front plates. We already pay a $50 annual levy to fund ads telling us bikes are not fun, you will die and if the Govt. had its way it would simply ban them.

Last I heard was that they'd scrapped the front number plate idea.
We better not tell them about RFID technology which would allow them to ID us.
Except for the fact that VICRoads is too dumb to think or breathe on their own, it would already have happened.

Here in Arizona, they are required to be able to positively identify the Rider/driver, so anyone wearing a full-face helmet is pretty much exempt from the law..... no way to identify you if they can't see your face
We had some guy in Phoenix that would put on a monkey mask and speed past the cameras deliberately, they finally staked out his house and followed him to catch and arrest him.....
Yeah I thought this proposal had disappeared as well and I was surprised to read that its still apparently ''alive''. My sources tell me that the motorcycle anti christ Commissioner Ken Lay is pushing hard for the introduction of front plates as well.
