Title: My God that's a HEAVY motor
Post by: grannyknot on December 10, 2011, 06:29:15 PM
Single handily wrestled the frame off the engine today but only noticed after it was all done and my old back
was screwed that I really should have stripped the frame first of the front wheel, shocks and handle bars.
What a putz. Then pivoted the engine off the jack on onto the dolly, that sucker has gota be 300lbs.

Haven't decided if I'm going to have the frame sand blasted and powder coated or clean it up and re-spray
it myself with a rattle can, would appreciate your opinions.

Yup!  They feel like they're made entirely of lead sometimes!

As for the frame, consider where you want to end up... with everything perfect and shiny and new, or with everything just better than it was?  Doing it right is slow and expensive, but usually nicer than doing it fast.

Didn't someone recently weigh the engine at ~180 lbs?
Simi Ed and I were moving his FJ engine around on his driveway. We needed to turn the engine forward to get to something I can't remember, anyhoo, I thought I had a good hold on the motor to tip it forward and....whoooa! It's a top heavy beast. It was awkward.
I'm glad Ed had some double thick cardboard down on his driveway.

As the late great Chick Hearn would say, "No harm, no foul."
