yes the actual gears are exactly the same.

the shift forks will work also but the later 1200 models (89 and up)  are substantially better pieces to reduce bending.

Unless you're buying on ebay, or some other used source... please don't, get new, probably worth it to ensure that they're dead straight and not worn!

Only said something because my 90 had the older style forks in it.  The newer ones are a good half inch longer and a little beefier.

Hi, My '87 FJ has 30K miles, however it has always ran clean and strong with the exception of a jumping 2nd gear. I am now in the process of fixing my second gear. I've already had the related gear dogs undercut and need to buy a new shift fork for that gear set. to be certain, when ordering the new part, I want to get the '#1' shift fork, correct? I think I may buy the part at Bike Bandit for $50.61. While I have the engine out, is there any thing else that typically 'needs' to be replaced? I'm on a tight budget of course, however don't want to do this twice. Thanks.

You should probably check my prices before you purchase elsewhere, I know my prices are cheaper than you have posted.

All three forks have been redesigned and upgraded and should be replaced.

And just so you know the gear set that has second gear uses two shift forks. Did you have the output shaft of the transmission undercut?

I also have all of the gaskets you will need when you tear it down.

I have shift forks on order and they should be here mid next week.

i would follow Randy's advice and replace all the shift forks while you're in there.

After going to all the trouble of splitting the case you may as well do the job right and then enjoy the ride  :good2:
