Title: Collars for belly pan mounting bolts
Post by: coreyoreo on November 02, 2011, 11:32:54 PM
Hello all,
Looking for a replacement solution for the 4 collars needed to mount the belly pan, (Yamaha part #90387-064W1-00 (Collar) but no one seems to have any...They're discontinued.

Not sure exactly what they look like or what they're made of, but anyone have ideas on what I could use instead?

Is it just a spacer that I could get at a hardware store?

Thanks for any help!!
Corey

Plastic or nylon washers, IIRC....

Its just aluminium tubing.....maybe a hardware store can sell you a small length.......it just has to be the right OD to fit into the plastic fairing holes and the right ID for the bolt to fit through. Length is such that the bolts are just contacting the plastic, but the collars are the main pressure bearers with the bolts tight. A rubber washer under the bolt head does the trick.

Think of them as a piece of aluminum tubing with a washer attached at one end.  The washer is a bit larger than the hole in the belly pan.  The (flat) washer side goes on the inside of the pan and rests on the frame mounts.  Also there is a foam/rubber spacer that attaches to the belly pan on the inside as well.  It provides a cushion between the spacer and pan.

Not too long ago I bought all new mounting bits for the belly pan from Yamaha since I never had the actual parts.  When I had mine repaired and repainted I figured the correct parts were a good idea to mount it back on the bike.

actually, i just went through this 2 weeks ago on my 85.....if you go to a auto-parts store and get the mounting gromments for a 82-94 chevy s-10 windshield wiper motor, they work great!!...theyre just a skosh thicker than the stockers, so they dont get squashed as badly, and also do a better job of cushioning the plastic, also, they have a steel spacer sleeve in them that lets you bolt them on solid, without over-compressing the rubber.......cost about 2 bux each...fwiw

It's been a long time since I pulled the chin fairing off, I'd forgotten about those.....  I still have it, and it's in great shape. I pulled it off because a good friend lives on a rocky dirt road, and I didn't want to damage it visiting him.

Good one!  I'd like to nominate this one for the "Best Cross Reference of the Year Award"

no prob......dunno about the newer bikes, but on 84-85 bikes, these also work great for mounting the upper fairing too.....only 1 of mine were bad, but i had em, so i swapped em all....made a big difference in the rattle/buzz coming off of the fairing!!

Great!!! I'm replacing my fairing next, also, so I'm assuming I'll need a few more too...

Hi there,

Hoping someone could give me some actual dimensions of the collars etc & the fairing bolts if possible.

Thanks

Check this out :).  In the past I bought mine from ACE hardware. Randy has them. Probably more correct than mine.

I cut my own collars out of the hollow threaded tube that is used in light fixtures like a room ceiling light (is it called a sconce?).  ID and OD were good, just cut to length.
For the rubber washer between the mount and the lower fairing, I used water hose washers.  Nice and cheap and plyable.
