Title: dynatek upgrade
Post by: p6bsweeny on October 31, 2011, 09:27:55 PM
Hi all, I've upgraded my 92 Fj with the dynatek ignition upgrade including
new coils and leads, works great except that it runs out of fuel after a couple of minutes.
I've had to leave the old igniter in the circuit for the pump to run on start up, but its not
running after start up and then of course the engine dies, from reading it appears that
once the engine starts, the igniter sends some kind signal to the pump relay to engage the pump, the manual shows this to be a grey wire but the only grey wire on the igniter is the feed to the coils which of course I've cut in order to feed the trigger from dynatek unit.
Any help appreciated !

Yes!......I found the same thing with the pump......just leave the reserve switch in the forward position and it will keep running.

Thanks Harvey

Can you confirm you left the old igniter in position ?

Can you jumper this grey wire back to where it originally went so the signal is there to run the pump?  Doesn't the grey wire also provide the tach signal?

Sorry, I may not be fully understanding your problem.

When I installed my Dyna ignition, I followed the instructions that came with it, and my fuel pump works fine..... no need to leave the old ignitor in place.  Did you follow the instructions?  Do you HAVE the instructions?  They have the sheet on their website.....

Hey Rich,
I'm glad to hear that since I've got a full Dyna system sitting on the shelf for my '93.  Was reconsidering installing it this winter at the first of this thread, but I think you've re-convinced me to do it.  :-)

Thanks!

Go for it!  Works great!   I still need to install the Dyna coils, have all the parts ready, just need to find the time....

Hi all, yep I followed the instructions which says remove the old igniter, problem is the pump don't prime, put the igniter back into the circuit and the pump primes the carbies but then doesn't run after start up, motor runs and by the way it does run sweet with the upgrade but then dies after 5 min. It looks like the bike had a rebuild at some stage, 1996 coils in a 1992 bike so maybe they messed with the wiring, think I'll hard wire the reserve switch to run the fuel pump direct.  Thanks for the help !!
