Post by: fj11.5 on October 28, 2011, 07:13:55 PM
after checking out craigo,s awesome wheel swap,i was wondering if anybody else has fitted a 17"gsxr wheel, as i have a set up arriving soon , but i never gave much thought to height clearance is there a way to adjust an 84 1100  ,or just use the preload ?

About the only way would be to have a longer shock, or to move the upper shock mount.
You may be able to find a shock from another bike that is 10-20mm longer C to C than the OEM unit, but it'll also have to be sprung at least as hard as the FJ shock.  Kwaka 1400 shocks are frequently available cheaply, but I don't know their specific measurements.  I'm using a modified Honda (showa) F4 shock in my bike, but I was able to change ride height with new dogbones.

thanks arnie, a few kwaka shocks on ebay in the states, , maybe next year, shifting the mount myself would be easier as i can afford that, will do some measuring and as about the shock lenght,s ect, , silly question, but is it does the height need to be changed

Not necessarily...On my '84 I used a 1997 YZF1000 Thunder Ace swing arm with the oem FJ '89-91 relay arm. Bolted right up.

This converted the linkage over to the dog bone style.
Here's a write up on the T-Ace conversion on a 92-93FJ; http://www.fjmods.btinternet.co.uk/MarcRittner.htm (http://www.fjmods.btinternet.co.uk/MarcRittner.htm)
For Dogbones I used Soupy's adjustable links
